GIRFT - Getting It Right First Time

Very interesting article on the BBC website about the NHS wasting time and money, and how Getting It Right First Time would save so much time and money.

If they had GIRFT with my hip, I wouldn't have had to have a second revision surgery after the THR, and I wouldn't be facing an uncertain future now.

If you can't find the article, I have the link and can send it via personal message.

    Dear Graham

Yes an interesting read though I've only skimmed it. Thanks for pointing us to it.

I have downloaded the full report .... and today received a notification that my medical claim is at last coming to the end & I should soon receive a compensation offer.  I would have preferred not to be claiming, and to have had a hip that was "Right First Time" rather than go through all this extra pain and anguish.

      Dear Graham

I'm really delighted to hear that your compensation claim is finally drawing to a conclusion and I hope that you get a fair compensation for all the anguish, pain, stress and wasted life.

As the result of the accident in the ambulance I started a claim many months ago but do not expect to have any settlement for a long time.  If it covers the costs that I had to incur as a result then that will be something.   Weeks of life wasted are impossible to put a price on of course as you would appreciate.

      Cheers  Richard

      Richard,

Thanks for that - I am now coming up to the second anniversary of my botched hip, so it has been a long time indeed.  As you say, it is totally impossible to put a price on all the pain, lost time etc.

      Good luck with your claim.

Hi Graham, also in the summer I read an interesting article by a senior surgeon saying that hospitals really need to learn from each other. He was saying that rates of infection in hip surgery are very high in some hospitals which wastes huge amounts of money , (and a lot of distress for the patient) whereas other hospitals have brought infection rates right down. It seems that hospitals work in isolation, more sharing of good practice is needed.

I would love the link please Graham. I too suffered a botched surgery & had to have revision 13 months later & I am also pursuing compensation.

    Many thanks
