Girl spinal lump

So I have had this bad left back pain for about 2 years now. I feel it all the time - sometimes more dull and sometimes very sharp and intense. My boyfriend noticed this lump on my spine about a year ago and i didnt think anything of it since it was pretty small at the time (about a pea/dime size). Now my pain seems worse and the bump is a little bigger. The bump itself is painless and firm, not very moveable. It feels deep and Im wondering if it is pinching nerves in my spine causing the pain. Any input on what this might be is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm not a doctor but I had a very similar condition in virtually the same location. For me it was a "sebaceous cyst," which is a benign growth just under the skin that is filled with a white, cheese-like material. They are normally painless but, as in my case, they can grow large enough that they can be painful in certain situations (like for me, since it was in the upper center of my back, it was painful when I slept on my back, or spent time in a hard-backed chair).

Such a condition is unrelated to your spine and only causes pain because it pushes onto your spine underneath it. The best kind of doctor to see for that (no matter what it is) is a dermatologist. If it is small enough they can remove it in their office but if it has gotten large enough they may have to send you to a plastic surgeon (the cheesy stuff is in a sac under your skin and they have to get the whole sac out, otherwise it will refill and grow back. If that looks to be difficult to do the dermatologist will send you out to the plastic surgeon).

Regardless of whether it is the dermatologist or the plastic surgeon who removes it, the procedure is very simple - they just use a local anesthetic, you are awake the whole time, it is over in 15 minutes and it is utterly painless. Depending on how big it is there may be a scar but since it is your back it shouldn't be a big deal.

    Good luck!!

Hi K, This is something that should be looked at by a DR, if it is indeed deep pain like you describe it could be a number of things from bulging disc, arthritis, some kind of cyst etc...the best thing is to get a DR to look at it and do some xrays, depending on your exam maybe an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI...the fact it has gotten bigger and its location I would call the DR, sooner the better esp. if you are in pain(it is unlikely to get better on its own)...if you're comfortable, I would be interested to learn what it is, from a medical perspective...Good Luck, I hope everything works out for you & BEST WISHES💒🌈🎶♾💞🐾🍀☮
