So it seems that my girlfriend may have caught mono from me. About a day after i tested positive for mono my girlfriend got tested and it came back negative so she decided to go on her dive vacation to roatan honduras. for about 2 days before she left she began feeing quite ill i thought it was mono she was convinced it was a cold. shes now been there for 2 days and is in a lot of pain, shes been in tears all night from the excruciating sore throat and body aches she feels the pain in her abdomin amd every lymphnode on her body is swollen. She doesnt really have access to medicine as she is in a very foreign country, im trying to fly her home to me in canada which i will pay for if its necessary but it will cost alot so i wont do it unless its reccomended i just need her to be okay and comfortable. Is she more susceptible to other infections and desieses if so i will get her home, what do you guys think? i feel really bad and helpless since i too have really bad mono right now and shes in another continent. Any sugestions will be extreamly helpful and appreciated. Thankyou for reading.

    Hi 50,

So sorry to hear that your girlfriend is showing symptoms also, and I totally understand it must be so hard to cope when dealing with your own symptoms. Unless she is living in particular poverty or bad conditions, please don't worry too much about being susceptible to other infections. Sometimes colds and things can hit harder during mono, but generally all the symptoms are caused by mono and it just takes time for recovery from this horrible thing unfortunately.

I was the same in that I passed mono on to someone else too and felt terrible about that. Remember that mono has a longish onset period, I believe it can be around 2 months or even longer after initial infection before symptoms start showing and blood tests would show positive.

Best thing you can do is just to comfort and reassure her that it will get better, tell her about the forum too. Also for you both taking vitamins and herbs (good strong multi-vitamin each day, high doses of Vit C (1000mg-3000mg each day), B complex each day and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng / echincea) another piece of good advice. And most important is rest, for you both, try to rest as much as possible and don't beat yourself up because there's only so much you can do from afar, and you need to remember to look after yourself through this time too.

Thinking about you 50 and remember you both WILL make a full recovery, given a bit of time - keep reminding each other of that for sure. Trusting God with your recovery, as Jesus is the great physican and healer. Truly believing you WILL get through this and be stronger for it and back to full health. Hang in there for now, this time will pass.

    Craig
