Glandular Fever

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi, I was told I had glandular fever on Friday the 20th after feeling unwell for about 3 weeks. However it is only recently that I have felt at my worse and I wonder if this is normal as I must have had the glandular fever for over 3 weeks for it to show positive on a blood test. I’m not sure if it’s normal to have good and bad days, some days I can even make it out of the house and some days i feel very nauseous. I have also been experiencing stomach pain and discomfort in various places around my stomach. Wondered if I could get and feedback. Thanks

    Hi Paige,

Just as Caroline and all the guys have been saying, definitely what you're experiencing is very normalf or glandular fever. I really do want to reassure you that things will get better, make sure you get plenty of rest that is very important after diagnosis, don't push through too much as your body needs recovery time. Taking vitamins and herbs can be really helpful too, a good strong multi-vitamin per day, high doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day), Co-enzyme Q10 and immune boosting herb like siberian ginseng or echinicea.

The forum here has some great guys on it who can offer encouragement and advice, definitely worth checking in and remember that you WILL get better from this - it can take a bit of time sometimes so don't panic if you don't feel perfect right away, but you definitely will get over this and back to full health again given time.

Thinking of you and hang in there.

Thanks Craig! I am just super worried as I don’t sound like the classic GF case , I’m not bed ridden and I don’t have swollen glands, I just feel nauseous and have a loss of appetite. Hopefully will feel better soon though

      Hi Paige,

I wasn't bed ridden when I had the virus either, I worked on for a month whilst I still had it but then had to stop for a while after that as was so exhausted. I was still able to be up and about a lot of the time though, just with more rest. Please don't worry as it is most likely your symptoms are being caused by the glandular fever, I don't think there is a typical case of this, there are commonalities but everyone seems to be affected differently!

Key thing to know (from someone who has been through it) is that you WILL get better, and this difficult time will pass - hang in there and thinking of you - trusting God that things will get better!

Thanks so much Craig.  Every story I’m reading of people who have/ have had GF they have had tonsillitis or not being able to eat/swallow from a swollen and sore throat

      Hi Paige,

I didn't have a really bad sore throat, glands only slightly enlarged.

      Hi Paige,

It's totally understandable to be worried and stressed about this, it really is a nasty virus and horrible thing to go through. As the guys have been saying, asking your doc for general health blood tests is always a good idea, things like full blood count and ESR really good and they can tell so much from your blood, and if everything else was okay with these then it most likely is the glandular fever causing these horrible symptoms.

It really isn't likely to be anything else, it's so easy to let your mind run away with itself when feeling so unwell and struck down by the virus - but that's normal it's the way it gets you but you do recover with time. Sometimes it can take longer than other viruses unfortunately, but don't feel pressure to recover quicker because you are young just take things slowly and things will get better with time! It is an advantage being younger it really is, and you have lots of good healthy times to look forward to I fully believe that!

Thinking of you and try not to do too much googling if possible (I know it's hard).

You're welcome Paige, I just know like all the guys on here do how frightening and worrying and lonely it can feel to go through this virus, want you to know you're not on your own and are going to get through this! The anxiety is very normal with this, I had it too and it's all very draining and unsettling - but in those hard days and moments remember what you're going through now is all temporary and a normal course for the virus and that with time is does get better - I know that doesnt' help much when experiencing those horrible symptoms in the moment, but things will get better over time they really will - hang in there and don't look too far ahead for now though, one day at a time.

Did you or anyone you’ve spoken to with gf have stomach pains not specifically in the spleen area, more just general tummy pains?

      Hi Paige,

Yes I think I had stomach pains during the virus, it can still be from glands especially around the mid chest area and groin area, but it can also just be the virus making you feel unwell too - this can be normal don't want you to panic and remember all these symptoms will pass with time.
