Glaucoma

I was diagnosed early dry AMD and early Glaucoma about 1.5 yrs  back. My eye sight was reasonable when diagnosed and it is quite alright even now. I have been using Glaucoma eye dropsTravatan once a day and Azopt twice a day for the last about 12 months. Recently for the last about 2 months, I have been feeling heavy head (not exactly headache) almost through out the day; more so after afternoon. I feel that I may be having fever due to hot fore head. Temp is alright in the morning and then keep rising till reaching 99 but I feel unwell. At me age over 80, I have been having daily walks for half an hr but I am not going out for the last one week due unwell feelings. My blood tests are mostly normal, Stool/ urine tests are also normal. Hb previously used to be 14 six months back but now it has come down 12.5.

I like know from the users of Travatan and Azopt eye drops if burden on my head, warmth of body with temp going up etc could be due to any of these drops? Earlier my body temp used be less than 97.5. These days, it is so in the morning also when I get up.

I will soon be seeing the Dr as well for this problem.

Hi Iqbal, I too, have been having episodes of feeling unwell. I had been on Latanaprost, once a day, and Azopt twice a day. My GP sent me for a series of blood tests. I was convinced that I had anaemia I was tired, and my skin was very pale, even my gums were pale. When I got the results all tests were normal, except my GGT Liver reading, which was above the normal ratio. A repeat test recorded a further increase in the zGGT reading. The side effects of Azopt include skim pallor and abnormal liver function. My Consultant told me to stop the Azopt , and he would review me in a few months time and my GP wishes me to have a rpt. blood test in a few weeks to check my GGT level. Good Luck with your appt. with your GP.

Today I had gone to the Medical Specialist who saw my Blood/ other test results and said I am perfectly OK.

I plan to go to Opthalmologist to ascertain cause of my unwell feeling if it is due to the eye drops being used by me. Actually there is no option for Azopts( being beta-bolcker free) as tried by me by using various other drops and ultimately I settled down with Azopt. All other drops especially Co-Dorzal (Dorzolamide 2%/Timolol 0.5%) suited me the best initially by bringing my IOP frm 23 to 12 each eye in just one months. But the problem with it was that my heartbeat came down to 50 and so with BP also due to betrablocker element in it. Hence, I had to stop Co-Dorzal. If at all you come across some other eye drops whichare beta-blocker free, and thus do not lower BP and also the heatbeat, then do inform me.
