Glaucoma patient + AMD suspect at 16

Hello. Last April 2017 I was diagnosed with glaucoma and that was a week after my graduation in Junior HS. When I was 10 I was only a glaucoma suspect meaning I am at high risk of developing the disease. My doctor gave me latanoprost eye drop. My IOP was controlled through the years but it increased 25-30 at some time. When I turned 16 I became a glaucoma patient and not a suspect anymore. That was the time I became really depressed. I felt hopeless and powerless against it because my IOP isn't lowering even though I take 4 medicines that is equivalent to 6 drops a day. It took me a month before finally accepting that I have glaucoma. Because of having increased IOP at 25-30 for long even with the 4 strongest eye drops, the doctor declared that I am medically uncontrolled so he gave me another medicine, Betoptic. I am taking 5 different eyedrops 9 times a day. So I prayed a lot. I really spent my time with God instead of spending my time with my family. On the second week of May, I felt lighter but I can still feel the pain like I was mourning for myself. It was a little bit funny somehow because after I was diagnosed with glaucoma, I really planned what to do incase I'll lose my vision but I hope it will never happen because I am too young and I have a lot of dreams in life. So after a week I returned to the hospital and checked my IOP and it was normal. I have regular check-ups to monitor my IOP. But on the second week of June, I took another test to check my macular pigmentation and the doctor said it was very thin which can lead to AMD if it wasn't detected. So the doctor gave me another medicine for it.

Anyone who feels the same way as I do? I would like to open a discussion about how these serious eye diseases affect your life and how do you cope with these since we will die with them.

It appears that ultimately your Glaucoma is under control due to lesser IOP as a result of Betopic. keep using the eye drops which suit you. With Doc's advice then he may suggest to discontinue the eye drops which did not help you.

For AMD, one has to use vit supplements ( containing lutein, Zeaxanthin etc). There is a web site done by Lesley Degner providing guidance regarding this problem. If you wish, I can provide you further info about this web site. Good luck. May you recover soon and completely from these problems.

Embrace and make Glaucoma your friend and lifelong companion.make sure you put preservative free medications..if anything make sure of this..also I am on clinical trials right now FOR 1drop a day.we see what's changed..I have already done Laser Iridotomy.just enjoy your summer and start to live your life to maximum!! :-)
