Glucosamine and MSM side effects?

This might sound completelymad but has anybody out there had any adverse mental side effects from taking Glucosamine/MSM?  I am feeling shaky and slightly fearful and wake up with a feeling of doom.  I know these are classic signs of depression but I didn't have them before taking this supplement.  I have been diagnosed with arthritis in my hips and have been taking pain killers and anti-inflammatories for the past six months (it's taken this long for my doctor to diagnose this, after a mis-diagnosis of bursitis, being sent to have physio therapy without any diagnosis what for, a cancelled ultra sound because the radiologist said I should have physiotherapy (!) and eventually an MRI).  However, I was coping ok but now feel quite bad.  Any help please?

Hi jan. Glucosanmine can react with some prescribed medication. Does your doctor know you are taking these supplements? I'd be cautious and stop taking them and discuss it with the doctor or pharmacist

Thanks so much, I'm only on statins but you may well be right, I'll talk to my doctor next visit and leave the alone for now!

Think that's a sensible idea. You just never know because some of the supplements contain other ingredients such as additives and I think Glucosamine may contain fish shell although I couldn't be 100% certain.

Yes they certainly contain fish shell, the assistant in the pharmacy asked me if I was allergic, which I'm not.  Anyway, I'm not taking any more and will up the Nsaids to help with the pain.  Thanks for your input.

Before I started taking it I checked with my pharmacist and he said it was OK with the midecation that I take, though I must admit I feel a little "low" on it and it sets my "systom" going within an hour or so of taking it!!!

Thanks Pamela, I think there are more side effects than we know about, suits some and not others.  I'll stop taking them for the time being.  Thanks for your reply.

I was considering the same thing, and seeing if it was them, or just me??

Good idea - maybe you have some worries that are making you a bit down as well?  I've gone back on Omega 369 fish oils, no side effects!
