Glue ear in children

Posted , 1 user is following.

My daughter is 3 and is constantly getting colds and having ear infections. I insisted in February that she be referred to a specialist and went to see him yesterday. She had a couple of tests and he said she had glue ear and put her down for the grommets and for her adenoids to be removed in less then 2 months. I'm extremely frightened and dont know what to do for the best, i kind of wished i never read most of these experiences!!!!!! Can anyone give me something positive to hold on to?!

My daughter had grommets inserted and tonsils and adenoids removed two weeks before she started school. She was discharged from hospital that evening although she had a slight fever. The nurses felt that she would be safer at home as there was less risk of more infection there (!). She recovered well and her speech became clearer and her constantly snotty nose disappeared. However, it seems that once one lot of grommets have been inserted, more will need to go in over the next few years. Two and a half years on and we are told that she should have more inserted - which we are not happy about. We are trying this an alternative option and hoping to avoid the second operation.

I had grommets put in when i was 8, id also suffered from constant ear infections. I also had my adenoids taken out as well and the operation went very smoothly and my hearing came back 100%. Try not to worry about this as in a lot of children after having grommets their hearing is usually great after.

The only advice i give is to keep calm and to keep an eye on ur child after to see how she is doing. I am now 17 and ive just found out that i have glue ear yet again and need grommets again so as your child develops i think u should keep an eye on her ears always.
