Go back to 25mg?

I have been on sertraline for  3,5 weeks now for panic attacks/ Anxiety. The first two weeks I took 25 Mg and my panic attacks started to decrease after the first week. Then after two weeks I increased the dose to 50 Mg and after three days I started to feel worse again and have worse/ full on panic attacks again. Besides worse panic attacks and increased Anxiety, I also have increased side effects on 50mg such as a tensed neck and jaws and a runny nose. I also woke up really anxious and nauseous the first week on 50mg but that has subsided.

Can it be that 25mg could be more effective for me than 50mg or does it take time to adjust? I’m now on day eleven with 50mg.

I am quite worried about it, because my panic attacks mostly consist of pelvic Floor tension and urge to urinate. This prevents me from leading a normal life at the moment and is really getting to me.

It might be your body just adjusting but for me I started on 25mg for anxiety n panic and have continued on that dose, it’s been 8 months and it’s taken the edge off enough to feel like myself again.

I’ve still got anxiety but not to the extreme

    Good luck with it all

My psych told me to continue for at least another week on 50 mg to see how it goes

Hi. It does take a couple of weeks for your body to adjust and it does get worse before it gets better. I am on 3 weeks of reducing from 50mg to 25mg and it’s been a tough ride with the withdrawal . Stick with it, it does get better. I’m only coming off then as the meds do not agree with my stomach, constant running to the loo for 12 weeks! Hang in there!

      Hi Tanya

I’m having issues with my stomach

I’m lactose n fructose intolerant so not sure it’s that making me live in my toilet. Doctor think been such a low dose not but I’m having a gastroscope and colonoscopy next week to rule out anything serious then next step is looking into if it’s the sertraline doing it! The only way to know if it’s the meds is to go off them... I’m hoping not as it’s really helped me in the last rough 8 months!

I had to have a colonoscopy because of the bad bum. Came back clear and it was no where near as horrid as I thought it was going to be lol. Don't know about a gastroscope though. Im on 150mg sert and it has saved my life. Except I still have the diorrhea.

Marginally better than it was though. I sympathise with you cos it's no fun and leaves you dehydrated and drained ( pardon the pun)

Good luck with the tests. Eat light for a few days before. The worst bit for me was the stuff I had to drink the day before. If you have to do that mix it in jugs and put in fridge. I put a bit of orange in it and ice cubes!

      Keep on trucking

Hi, since I reduced to 25mg no more toilet issues! So I know that it was the sertraline with me! I also had a scan and apparently my large bowel, small bowel and stomach were going into spasm which I think is the anxiety as apparently anxiety plays havoc with the gut . I’m trying a lot of self help with relaxation tapes, books and waiting for appt with a self help group with other anxiety sufferers. Hope everything works out for you x
