Going crazy over symptoms - HIV, MS

Hello everyone,

I am possibly going through the worst period of my life so far and I don't know where to start with.

I am a 25 year old girl and around 1 month ago, I had sexual contact with a girl of unknown HIV Status (kissing, biting and fingering). Ever since, I have been extremely anxious over the possibility of having been infected with HIV, especially because I did not check if there were cuts on her hands.

2 weeks after that, I had a sore throat and I sneezed a lot and it went away after around 3 days.

Now, that 1 month has passed by, I started having this awful tingling/needles sensation in my feet and I am even more scared because it is a symptom of HIV (which I already feared) and also of Multiple Sclerosis.

I went to the neurologist and she told me to do exams, which I am scared of doing

I also want to get tested for HIV but I am way too scared of the result.

I have an anxiety disorder and right now dealing with the possibility of having these two diseases is driving me completely and insanely crazy.

What do you think of this?

Thank you

Please try to take a deep breath and relax. If you are worried I think it is best to get tested! I wish you all the best and will pray for you.

      Hello Jayden

Today I went to get tested but now I have to wait because it is a lab test.

      Thank you for the support

The risk of transmission is very low between female to female.  There is of course a small chance. But from what I’ve read there have only been 5 reported cases... just take a test.  HIV is treatable to the point where viral loads are undetectable, Meaning the risk of transmission is greatly reduced.   Not getting tested means you won’t know and won’t be Able to seek treatment. But again your risk is very low.  Also HIV symptoms can be very generic so shouldn’t be used for diagnosis, as a lot of common ailments have those symptoms.

As far as the Risk of MS is concerned I can’t really comment as I don’t know the symptoms.  So again I would just suggest talking to your doctor about it.  As again I’m sure there is treatments available to help with this.

It sounds like you’ve consulted dr google and got yourself worked up (which I’m sure we’ve all done, I know I have lol)

So I would just suggest getting the recommended testing done.

    All the best.

      Hello B,

Thank you very much for the support.

I am aware that the risk between girls is very low, but Dr Google (as you very well suspected!) doesn't help to put my mind at ease.

Today I went to get tested, a 4th generation test in the lab, so the results are not immediatly available and I have to wait....

I read on the Internet that they call when it is bad news, so can you imagine my panick every time the phone rings since I left the lab?

I hope it doesn't take too long to get the results ... and hopefully I get a negative result

I’m sure you will be fine.  Try to not dwell on it.  What’s done is done.  And it’s not a death sentence.   Results take about 7-10 days in the UK,  not sure where you are from.  But from my experience I managed to make myself sick with the stress over it. So try not to worry.  It’s easier said than done I know. All the best.

Your chances of HIV infection based on what you described is close to 0, especially with no oral.

... and that awful tingling/pins and needles feeling in arms and legs is often reported as a symptom of anxiety. Since you admitted to stress and anxiety, I would look for this connection.

My best advice would be to test, believe your results and stay off Dr. Internet.

You didn't have a risk, the chance of getting hiv is very very very low, and I tell you it's zero.

Don't worry, your test will be negative.

Don't ask doctor google under any circumstances.

About MS, do the tests, I really doubt it, as my ex-girlfriend had MS, but it's a good idea to do the tests and MRI.
