I have had a biopsy to see if I need to remove my ovaries so waiting for the results but, should I remove them anyway? I am having the hysterectomy purely because my periods are so heavy and hardly ever have a day of no bleeding. Would you advice me please. I have never joined a group and very new.

Hi Sharon, I had my hysterectomy in June last year, I'm 74 years old. Advice that I was given through this group by some lovely ladies - be kind to yourself, get plenty of rest, don't do too much too soon (work can always wait!), don't be afraid to use your GP. We all heal differently, so be patient. Make sure you take your meds. I pray that your op will go well, and that your recovery will be completely straightforward.

    Best of luck Sharon xx

Hello Dorothy, oh thank you so much for all your kind words and advice. I have a good family unit with lots of help as we have two young girls only 9 & 11 years old so, going to need the help I think. I haven't got a date as yet but consultant said probably looking at April and when my biopsy comes back. Just need to decide whether or not to keep my ovaries ? I've not gone through the menopause yet but having night sweats so, maybe it's on the way? Xx

Hi Sharon, I’m 47 and waiting for a total hysterectomy. They are going to remove my ovaries as I have started hot flushes and night sweats.  I am the same as you very heavy bleeding all the time due to fibroids.  I was due to go in on 28th February, that was cancelled due to no beds, then I should have been in today but cancelled last night for the same reason.  It’s really awful getting worked up for it just to be let down at the last minute, hopefully will have a new date on Monday and fingers crossed third time lucky!!!

Oh how frustrating for you!! Hopefully you’ll get a date and finally get the operation done. It must be so annoying when you can finally see the end of the troubles and to be cancelled the night before. We can hopefully all stay in touch and compare notes and tips? Good luck and can’t wait to hear how your getting on x

I am 54. Hysterectomy December 2017. Postmenopausal but kept ovaries. They looked good and I believe (my opinion only) they play a continued role in our health.

I agree. Don't remove organs unless they are misbehaving or diseased. Don't remove things just because a Surgeon happens to be in there. Menopause can hit suddenly and severely if they are whipped out. They are important.
