Going for Mono vision Lite, advice needed.

As my journey continues:

Had my follow up from first surgery, dominant RE for distance mono focal. My untreated left eye cataract has caused a shift from far sighted to near sighted. With the right eye closed, the left eye has a limited focus range of about 12-14 inches. Closer or further it's out of focus.

I have decided to try for a type of mono vision. I discussed this with the doctor today, me calling it micro or mini mono vision. He said there are only 3 options, near, intermediate and distance and basically said they can do the LE for intermediate and shoot for a 1 diopter difference. He did advise that there is no guarantee that it would settle at 1 and might end up 1.5, they just don't know.

Since my current sight in the LE is out of focus closer than 12", and out of focus past 14" I think I have a temporary hybrid mono vision so I can't use my current condition as a test run and can't use contacts for testing due to cataract in the LE.

1)I also asked if it would be better to wait 6 weeks and he said they have enough information now so it won't matter?

I am struggling with the current set up and want to get this over with.

2)So, would waiting change the dynamics enough to tough it out or is it really won't alter the final results ?

3) Sound like a reasonable plan, setting the LE for intermediate at 1D

Almost 4 months out. I definitely need glasses to drive at night only if there are no street lights, otherwise not needed. Prescription, to get LE intermediate to match distance RE.

For close in small print, off the shelf readers to bring the intermediate in closer, only as needed, since I've adapted to reading even small print if held about 18 inches away, so would rarely use them.

So overall, I am satisfied with my choice and it's great being virtually glasses free. It's another age related compromise to accept

Thanks for the update. That is pretty much where I am with simulated monovision (-1.25). I did a long highway trip both with and without my prescription progressives. They correct my left eye back to plano at distance, plus correct astigmatism in both eyes. I really did not notice all that much of an improvement with the progressives. I probably won't bother to wear them for future daytime road trips on the highway. At night I would wear them for sure, but I don't in the city with street lighting. I ride a motorcycle and use a full coverage helmet. It is certainly nice not to have to squeeze glasses into that helmet.

On reading I have now bought some +1.25 readers. The seem to be a good compromise to give me very good close vision with both eyes. But, for the most part I do not use them. Certainly not for computer screen use, or for my iPhone 8+.

It will be nice to get the IOL in the second eye to hopefully give me similar vision but without the contact. The contact makes it more inconvenient to go back to my progressives.
