Going from split dose to single dose?

i am on 7.75 mg pred with 5.7 am and 2 mg pm. Mornings I tend to have much less ambition than late afternoon- not very practical. Late afternoon I have the ambition to exercise even before I take the pm dose with supper. Any ideas or is it trial and error?

When in the pm is the 2mg dose? Maybe you would do better in the morning if you took a larger proportion later in the day - 2/3 in the morning and 1/3 later is a common approach but you aren't quite at 1/3 later and sometimes half and half works better. Plus, if it doesn't affect your sleep, taking one of the amounts just before bed might be the answer - then it would be working well before you get up.

The PM 2mgm dose is around 6PM with supper. Today I took the whole dose at breakfast around 6AM and felt good all day.

When I began to get very hyper taking my pred. after breakfast my GP said to try taking it at night ( around 10.00PM I think it was ). This solved my hyper problem and I was on a pretty even keel all day. I did not split my dose. My sleep was not affected but I've never found anything that stops me getting my habitual 5 to 6 hours.
Individual differences, as we were taught at teacher training college, should always be a top consideration in decision making and if I were you I'd experiment and see what works for you.

karenjaninaz, most of the past couple I split my dosage most in the morning after breakfast, then the rest before bed in the evening. I had to play around with the times and dosage to see what worked for me. It seems that is what we have to do because we are all effected differently. Good luck on the rest of your PMR journey. Stay positive, active and try to smile. 🙂

On a 50:50 split dose—after breakfast and evening dinner—I tapered to 7 mg last July, 9 months after PMR diagnosis. Split dosing had been marvellous on high pred, suppressing all late-afternoon PMR pain.
Attempts to taper further have failed and, since mid November, I have settled on 7.5 mg.
In the weeks following Christmas, I phased out the split dose and now live happily on just a morning dose. Taking pills are much easier on a single dose. If you do choose to revert to a single dose, I strongly suggest you do so when not tapering and PMR symptom-free.
