Going nuts with neck pain x 3 months

Posted , 4 users are following.

My neck pain started about 3 months ago.....in my right jaw and along to my chin.....then I got a sore throat on the right side.....the doctor thought it was allergies.....put me on six days of steroids.  Pain went away but came back as soon as the steroids were done.  So back to doc.....another six days of steroids......came back but had gone to other side as well.....back to doctor...another 5 days of steroids but also an MRI.

?The MRI showed some degenerative changes in my cervical spine.

?After steroids pain was back but worse......this time mostly at the front of my whole neck with pain on swallowing....this has been happening for two weeks.  So doc ordered a CT scan which was ok.  Another six days of steroids.....and this time 10 days of antibiotics.  The last antibiotic tonight.  No help there.  I've been in agony for 5 or 6 days after the last dose of steroids...doctor said he would refer me to a spine doctor but he didnt follow through.  I feel like I've been blown off as not worth it.

?This pain is real but I dont know what to do next.  I'm taking ibuprofen every four hours to ease the pain, but it's really getting to me that I cant swallow my spit without pain.......and it wakes me up in the early hours of every morning.  Has anyone had anything like this?   I would love to hear from you.  Thanks!

Hi, I feel your pain (literally) I suffered with pain in my neck for so long and was taking Ibrufen/paracetamol every day for months. I finally got a scan and it found similar to yours. I was prescribed naproxen 500ml twice a day and I have physio too. The naproxen took a couple of weeks to eliminate the pain and after about a month the physio made a huge difference to. After a couple of months I started to take the naproxen at dinner time and dropped it to just once a day. Now I can go 2 to 3 weeks before I need physio and prob only need a naproxen every 3 days or so. Hope this helps, I though I would never feel better and felt sick with the pain and have to lie down as soon as I got home from work because my neck just couldn't hold my head up anymore. Now I look back and so thankful for the combination of treatment I got as it has worked for me. I really hope this helps you xxx

If you pay for prescriptions the doc can give 56 naproxen at a time to help keep the cost down as it can get pricy to pay for all the prescriptions or the NHS do a direct debit scheme you can pay 10 pound a month for and get as many prescriptions as you need a month for the ten pound xxx

Thanks Karen.. glad you found relief.

?Since I posted I've been to the ER and was given hydrocodone for the pain, muscle relaxers and some kind of acid reflux pill.  They also did another CT scan of the front of my neck even though I had just had one 12 days prior.  The tablets made me throw up.  I felt so ill.  So now taking Tylenol for the pain......I have a sore throat too and they now think I might have acid reflux so I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist tomorrow, and next week an appointment with an ENT specialist.  Hoping that someone can shed some light on what on earth is going on here.  I've seen 5 doctors so far and tomorrow the 6th.

?I'm living in Florida.  My sister in Wales wished we lived closer so she could take care of me.  Bless her heart.

?Thanks for sending me your reply.  I really appreciate it.  I've felt so alone in this.

I have the same symptoms, went and saw a spine doctor. Done a MRI, and they discovered I have a degenerative disc and advance arthritis for my age. I'm only 33 and my pain is deadly, I get swelling in the back of my neck, sore throat, etc., I've taken pain pills, heat/cold therapy, and arthritis rubs. My next step will be physical therapy

      Hi there

I was living with cervicalagia for over ten years and found a service that was a Godsend located in Florida.

After a session, I had a big relief. I am a believer in high quality medical care, don't get me wrong Doctors and specialists are necessary however I think a lot of people can bypass the mental aspects that can come with malfunctioning in neck nerves.

Just a little background on me, I was in a MOV accident when I was in my twenties and my neck was the worst injury out of 7.

I was using Tylenol for about 6 years but then it wasn't enough so I went Gluten-free which helped a good amount. I also used topical remedies like Biofreeze for a few years but it didn't reach my problem spots.

      Hope this helps!
