Going through the motions You got to laugh? even when it hurts

Following the disaster of my THR in October there havent been many things that have made me smile, the realisation that I have to go all through it again due to the femoral stem being the wrong size which has sunken into the femur. The Royal Orthopeadic in Birmingham told me following their Hip workshop that this time I need to have a raised toilet seat with surrounding frame, however as I am not a resident of Birmingham they wont be able to loan me one! I said I didnt want to keep it and would be more than pleased to return it when I no longer needed it, and pay a deposit if that helped, no good it cant be done. They suggested my local hospital would need to supply this item my local hospital in Basildon Essex said sorry as you are not having the op here we are unable to loan one either. NHS gone mad or what? My Wife and I were trying to find another supplier and made several calls but no response. Here is the funny part ( I think) we stopped at a Sainsburys supermarket to get some shopping on our way back to the car I spotted this open back truck with scrap and junk on board, yes you guessed it on top of this heap was a pristine toilet seat and frame just like we needed. The driver agreed to sell it to us for a fiver!! So I am now the proud owner of my own THRONE. Thats the luckiest part of this saga, I hope it makes some of you smile as it does us when we think what are the chances of that?

As in the Forest Gump film "S!*! Happens". Joking aside, what a find!  And yes, it does sound like the NHS has gone mad!

Good luck with your revision surgery!

Do you think your original stem came of the truck too. For future reference and other hippies in need of the throne I have been told the Red Cross is worth a try

    Good luck with next op

Gives a whole new meaning to toilet humour!! Always look on ebay if you need anything else...we have a nearby social enterprise that refurbs and sells mobility aids...really cheap and I gave it back for them to recycle a second time!! Good luck with your next op!

Do you need to wear a crown whilst on your throne?  We have a little shop here in our town which sells second hand mobility aids which people have brought in when hospitals no longer want them back, which includes thrones, hospital chairs, grabbers, sock aids and all sorts of things.  I had my grabber from there and a sock aid, which have come in very handy.
