GOING TO SLEEP WELL

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hey hippies.

4 weeks and 1 day after my LTHR posteria. And I can sleep on my scar side, only for half hour but better than not at all. So happy I can do it now.

Now spooning can happen when going to sleep again hahaha. I have missed that so much.

Hope you all have a speedy recovery

Hugs. Jules. Xx

      Susan,

That is so typical of the differing advice we receive - I was told I could sleep on the operated side at 6 weeks.

Getting back to "spooning activity" is a major boost to your confidence and wellbeing (well it was to me biggrin).

That's great to hear. Hugging spooning is a necessity for Heeling HOPE!

Ooo I cannot do that it's too sore and painful . I can sleep on the good side with a pillow between legs at 5 weeks but not the other way round . Don't think I am supposed to do this but need sleep !

      Thanks Renee

Can only do it for 10-15 minutes. But what a relief. I keep getting stabbing pains in my scar everyday. Hope it is ok and just muscle repair it is like someone is playing with my nerves. Possibly nerves mending now. Hope your doing well

      Big hugs. Jules. Xx

Oooo don't talk to me about the scar ! Most of my pain is in the scar .. It pulls, stings, throbs, gets hot , sore , achey . My physio said they have cut thro many layers of muscle and nerve and the pain is it all trying to heal back together after being sliced ...I rub Olbas oil in it but cannot lie on that side ... Sometimes it itches like mad ! X

Hey hazel. Mine is sometimes the same. It feels like a hot poker is being pushed through thigh or I get little electric shocks.

It was only 2 nights ago that I realised it didn't hurt lying on it for about 10-15 minutes. But what a relief it is to take that nagging ache out of my back because I slept on it for too long

Hope it all works out for you. X

Yes Julie most of mine is scar pain . Sometimes it's ok then other times it's rotten . The physio looked at it and said it is fine and the heat and pain are really normal as it is all healing . But I find nothing really helps cream wise or hot water wise still very tender . I do ice it sometimes X

      hi hazel,

your physical therapist is right ... if you had posterior approach, tendons and muscles have been severed in order to expose the hip joint -

scar tissue is being formed underneath  it as well - maybe you can ask your PT how to massage the area - is the scar closed and dry?

I had first hip done posterior approach and it took ages to feel better compared to the anterior approach back on my feet in a few weeks 4-5.

Yes Renee it is closed and dry .., gets very hot but that is apparently normal . That explains a lot thank you

In my experience I had Posterior approach and they didnt cut the muscles ,see description online. They have those nifty little tools  that holds the muscles out of the way. Clamps.

The only difference from heeling in the first few weeks are a blt tougher but my second hip was anterior and the posterior heeling eventually heeling evened out or caught up during a similar heeling cycle.

With posterier approach the restrictions are more involved with higher chairs  and sitting positions. With posterior i had to sleep with a A frame pillow between my legs & I wasn't able to drive as soon after anterior approach as posterier. But I would have preferred the posterior on both., my reasoning is  that some I may need revision and the surgeon can go back in thru the posterior incision and pull the muscles aside & out of harms way. Where as with the anterior approach if some day a revision in needed the surgeon can't go thru the anterior incision but must do the posterior approach.

      Pheww!

That's interesting ... I thought they cut thro muscles and I had a posterior . That explains why the first few weeks were rough . So is it easier to go back in after a posterior approach ? It's just that as I was fairly young having it done he said I will need it done again in the future ... If I live that long lol!
