Goiter making me nuts

So...2 yrs ago I had a MRI on my neck and a small nodule was found on my thyroid..I was told to get a sonogram many times, but seems something is always wrong with this 57 year old body and it wasn't bothering me. I I ignored the pcp. Then the throat started getting hoarse..felt some restriction and feels like.something is stuck in throat ,like a pill is stuck. .so I go for a dental procedure and dentist says my palate is an odd color and did I have a thyroid issue. I finally get the sonogram which showed a 2.2 cm multinodular goiter on the right side of thryroid. Many thyroid issues in family ..daughter had hers removed due to pre cancer cells..my mom..brother..many on moms side have thryroid problems. go to Endo...she takes blood all my levels are fine except low vitamin D. She sends me for a.fine needle biopsy that was awful. Goiter has grown to.2.9 cm but all biopsies benign...so now it has woke me up at night to.catch my breath and constant restricted feeling along with the feeling still of something stuck in throat and now when I talk at times I drool alittle from the right side in the corner of my mouth. Not anything anyone would notice but thinking about it...it has been happening for months...and I get hoarse whike talking fornmorenthan 5 minutes. . Although so happy no malignant cells...and no bad TDH levels. What happens now? When they called today the nurse said she would see me in July. Is it.going to just go away? Is it going to suffocate me? Lesson learned on waiting for sonogram but pcp said goiter would need removed. I google and google and get no answer because other than this goiter nothing seems wrong....anyone have this issue? .please and thank you

Hi Patti, the symptoms you're experiencing aren't unusual for thyroid disease. What I wish I'd known when I was sitting where you are, is that I was given no treatment until my thyroid disease reached a critical threshold. With thyroid disease comes many other illnesses and premature aging as well as autoimmune disease.

The traditional thinking is that thyroid disease is treated with hormone replacement, surgery, radiation, depending on the condition. That's old school. There are now many  preventative dietary changes you can make, supplements and natural therapies you can do to reduce a thyroid cysts and curb the progression of thyroid disease.

You mentioned it seems like something's always wrong... Welcome to thyroid disease.  You have the Internet at your fingertips. Many people have struggled with thyroid disease and are happy to help others, myself included.

There is hope, as some people are able to get thyroid disease into remission. Since you aren't going back to the doc until July, try some natural remedies, diet changes and anything else you can to see if you can make some progress improving your health.

I was was able to get my thyroid disease into remission for a decade, although the cyst remained.  The disease later returned with high stress, and I've been able to shrink the cyst, dissolve the calcified part of the cyst, and get my thyroid symptoms in check and am on the upswing for my health.

it took a lot of trial and error. Some things helped a little, some helped a lot, some didn't help, prescription meds nearly killed me and made the disease and symptoms worse. Some people respond well to meds, but I've read literally thousands of posts from people struggling with meds. Start with your family, ask questions. Find out more details of what's swirled for them. Just because everyone in your family has thyroid disease doesn't mean it's genetic. It's just as likely that it's a common environmental factor or dietary factor. So please don't feel hopeless.

Read everything you can. And try what you feel might work for you before your next appointment.

Yeah, I didn't really get anything preventative from traditional medicine. I did acupuncture, boron, amino acids and paleo gluten free diet. Those are the things I found most helpful.  Was able to shrink the large cyst- finally!

Oh, one more thing, remember it takes years, even decades for thyroid disease to develop. It doesn't go away over night.
