Golf post hip op.

At 9 weeks I have been told I can play golf with care. I have been in the garden to practice putting and the swing. Everything felt fine but the course has been closed because of the rain. I will try 9 holes when the weather improves. Tony

    Hi Tony

9 weeks and able to play is pretty good going my friend. I reckon I could play now at 11/12 wpo but have decided to leave it until after my holiday in March. At the outset I set the end of March as my goal to play again tho and then probably in a buggy at first. Have been trying out the swing and still being a bit careful. You are wise not to risk it yet tho cos the courses are pretty badly waterlogged at the moment and the possibility of taking a tumble is high. After all the suffering to be able to play again it's not worth risking it too soon.

Keep in touch tho and let me know how you get on.

Hi Colin, I only have a half swing anyway. My course is quite flat, I don't carry much weight and I realise I can't go like a bull in a china shop! I think the course will be closed for another week anyway, the pro has even organised a putting comp in the bar. I'll let you know how I get on. Tony

Cheers Tony.  When I saw my consultant last year I had in mind that if I needed an op the ideal time would be the end of October that would give a bit of time after my sept holiday before my b/day in Nov and Xmas to recover a bit and then to get through the orrible winters that we have been getting lately so would be able to take up the clubs again in Spring. You can imagine my joy when he told me he couldn't do the op til 22oct.

seeing my mates kicking their heals at the club when they can't play and coming in soaking wet and covered in mud when they can gives me glad it all panned out well for me. Can't wait to get back playing tho.

Hi I am 6 months po and after 3 months I wanted to start golf, but my Physio said I needed my hip to be much stronger, and to do more exercises and swimming, which I did.I am now in sunny Tenerife and have been practising for 4 days, the local Pro said just do 1/2 swings to start with and build up,I have done ok but it still does not feel right,so I will just keep going and hope it will come naturally, good luck Michael.
