Hi Group, I cant seem to find any photos online on how to do that golfers bend, with op leg back and bending good knee? Can you actually pick things up offf floor doing that? Has anyone else run across any illustrations of it?

    Hi Dawn

I'm not sure it's actually necessary to see it.  It's very easy to do.

Simply stretch out your 'bad' leg behind you as far as it will comfortably go and at the same time, bend the other knee as much as you can, until your hand can reach the floor.

You can definitely pick things up from the floor this way.  The physio showed me how to do it on day 2 and I found it so easy and safe.  I have not seen any illustrations at all, but it's very easy! Just take a fairly large step forward with your good leg and leave the operated one where it is.  It will be straight automatically and you can bend your good leg.  You can bend down quite safely without trauma to your hip.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

Other hippie replies are spot on and i can do this as well after easy as you go practice to ensure no pain etc. Should you feel any resistance in your hip or back then stop, rest and try again. Good luck

It does work . I went into town today on my own and dropped two things at different times . Must have looked a bit strange but who cares as long as hip is ok  x

Well u have to lift the op leg behind you when u bend over.and yes u can pick something off the floor.but I used a cane in the other hand.I needed to hold on something while bending down to the floor..

I'm confused....one advise says to put operated leg straight back and bend good leg and the other piece of advice says to step largely forward with good leg and bend over.  which is the correct way?

Ginny I tried it earlier and found that reaching the floor would be near impossible without bending forward but I didnt dare try it. Is it ok to bend forwrd while doing that or is it breaking the 90 rule? Wasnt sure

Try it, G. It's the exact same thing, just two ways of getting there.

It's the same thing really but I tend to put bad leg right back and iAd Ido I bend good knee without moving good leg . Would work bending good knee then putting bad leg back but I don't find that as easy . My dr told me after 6 week most restrictions ended but don't bend  straight down from the waist .

Try holding on to a wall  or chair the first time . I am 7 weeks post op now and it works for me . I do it slowly tho x

Try it while holding on to something first. Practise! Think of it like a exercise 😜
