Yesterday was so good no knee pain went to PT and was in pain afterwards a little but during night outside part of knee uncomfortable and I needed pain medication to help pain a bit throughout day today.

Why does this happen and I am hoping it's ok and I can ice and continue homework with heelslides? Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks! Does everyone have scar tissue after surgery?

Early days you will get pain sometimes with Pt , good days and bad days . You will get there in the end , 106 is good for 8 weeks . I didn't have a problem with scar tissue , moisturise your scar area often , helps to keep the skin supple . Easy for me to say after almost 20 years with no problems .

Pretty much.  May depend a lot on your DNA...whether your body creates it in great quantities or not.  No way to tell.  Spans the entire spectrum of people having little to none to those that need an MUA.  Most of us fall in the middle: moderate scar tissue generation conquered by PT and work.

Good to know thank you! Good to know pain is expected and normal makes me less afraid that I have done something wrong. Just wish it wouldn't occur lol

Definitely not fun and not for the weak of heart. Good luck and keep at it.

We could also wish Santa was real and the Easter Bunny doesn't poop chocolate eggs.  Not happening.  It is what it is.  Accept it and move on.  The pain will be gone soon enough.

Tip:  If you work the knee too much on a given day, it will swell.  Sure sign that you overworked it.  Did 8,200+ steps at 5 weeks and had to deal with a "knee balloon".  Solution: Wear a pedometer (fit bit, smart watch, etc.) and track your steps.  Swelling?  Note the steps as your current limit and back off, then increasing gradually.  By 8 months, I was doing 11,000+ steps (5+ miles) with no adverse consequences. Slow and steady progress.

That's awesome! Fitbit on. Today I am pushing too many steps now so I need to stop moving! I am exhausted and I notice that I get all over body aches when I over do it. Affects more than just the knees for me.

Congrats on steps that's so good smile

You cannot push a knee to recovery...period.  You can do that with a hip or a shoulder...not a knee.  I rehabbed a hip replacement in six weeks...total.  Therapy pool and gym 5 hours a day, 6 days a week.  Done.  The knee is a totally different animal.  You need to gradually expand your activity but at a rate your knee can handle...and it's different for everyone.  Swelling is the stop sign; with you, the body aches are also an indicator.  Be patient...this takes a while...

Yup...normal.  Happens because the PT is breaking down the scar tissue.  Normal.  Pain after PT?  Normal.  Ice, elevate, take your meds, continue your home and PT work.  Normal...

I am six months out from TKR on my right knee. I am going to the gym 5 times a week and still do pt exercises at night. Still have on and off pain on the outside of the knee though it is getting more manageable. Don’t have to use meds very often but do at night once in a while. It takes time, hang in there.

If you don't have a trainer or need a program, here it is...

Great work!!!  Rehabbed my replaced hip in '09 doing 5 hours a day, six days a week.  Done in six weeks total.  Gotta be more careful with the knee or it swells but you may already be past that point.  This program will help you get your strength back ASAP...
