Good days and nauseous days 3 weeks on

Posted , 8 users are following.

HI, this is my first post and wonder if anyone can reassure me? I had a THR 3 weeks ago and apart from the normal pain, tiredness etc., have been okay .... except for one thing.... my digestion. I'm having some good days, even pottering with one or even no crutches - but my stomach is awful. I'm not really taking much medication now, the occasional paracetamol, but some days I'm so nauseous and needing the loo for funny bits of loose poo followed by retching and feeling awful.

Is this normal or is something seriously wrong with me? Today is a bad day and I can't eat a thing. I simply don't know how best to help myself. Any thoughts much appreciated - thanks. Marianne

My stomach took a few days to settle following the op. I put it down to the combination of all of the trauma, plus drugs, plus anxiety etc. Codeine didn't suit me and had the sort of effects you are describing - although I persisted with it - but you imply you are not taking that. Are you very anxious?

Perhaps you should see you GP for reassurance? You could have an infection perhaps?

    Hope you feel better soon!

hi. pleased the hip side of things seems to have gone well. if I was you I'd contact your GP . it could just be all the meds you've had during the operation etc but you can very rarely get GI upset from ulcers related to stress / ibuprofen type meds so think that needs to be excluded tbh.

best wishes anyway and hope you soon feel better

i sorry you are not feeling good.

    my thought is your medicine.

    take tylenol, or ibu.

i went off the meds they gave me 4 days out. ...made me sickkkk.

i took extra strength tylenol (2).....4 hrs later (3) ibu. rotated. kept my pain under control.

I was dreadfully sick after my op and it went on quite a while. I lived on mashed potato for the first three weeks. It started straight after the op and I had stopped taking any painkillers about three days later.

I'm now 4 weeks post THR and experienced similar stomach /bowel problems as you are for approx 2.5 weeks. It took a big meal out and total purge of my bowels to totally clear out my system and cutting down and stopping Co-codomal to stop the loose bowels.

It has got better and I'm now feeling much better in myself.

    Hope you feel better soon
