Good news at the Drs

Hello all

Have seen my Dr today and my blood results were good ESR4 CRP4 She had put me in for lots of tests as it was my 2 year review My bad cholestral was a bit high but my good Cholestral was exceptionally low ( I like to be good at something !!) My blood pressure was also better so no tablets for that So I bounced out of the Surgery

I am at present on 4 4 5 4 4 5 and just playing it by ear as I go lower I will slow down even more Its taking me about 6 weeks to go down I mg at present and ( fingers crossed ) feeling OK Unfortunately until you have tried to reduce too quickly you dont know !! I asked about Vit D and she said that she had heard of lack of Vit D causing Muscle ache but judging by my suntan ( Back from Valencia ) I spent plenty of time in the sun and she said at least 30mins a day was advisded I was hoping my holidays might come on prescription !! She is very happy for me to reduce at my own pace

Hoping this lovely weather continues The New Forest looks beautiful at present and I can certainly do without the snow and ice of last year

Best wishes to all

Great news Mrs G :magic: Lovely to hear its all going so well. I'm going down 1mg every 7 weeks (on 5mgs at present) so we're around the same level. Like you, I'm willing to go even slower if necessary. I'm off to Egypt in two weeks time for a vit D top-up so I may just put a halt to the reduction while I'm away. How was Valencia? And do you know what? Even Basingstoke is beautiful just now, never seen the trees looking so wonderful. Hope everything continues to go well.

    Kind Regards

Yes it is really good news and I am pleased you are doing so well also

Yes we all need our Vit D We will be in search of some more at Christmas time Valencia is a lovely old city but very go ahead ( not like Southampton !!) They have a great metro system , clean new buses, and only 30mins to the beach from the centre of town Very vibrant but not so congested as Barcelona Will definately go again

    Best wishes

    Hi Mrs G

Your delight really came through in your post Mrs G and I bet you felt as though you were walking on air when you left the surgery!

It sounds as though both you and Lizzie Ellen are benefiting from all that foreign sunshine - pity you can't bottle it and bring it back for the coming months.

    Well done!

    Hi everyone,

not posted for ages as nothing much happening, but after being diagnosed query PMR 6 and a half weeks ago, I paid my first visit to my Rheumatologist yesterday. She still isn't 100% sure it is PMR but thinks it is. Had a thorough physical exam and blood tests and chest Xray. My liver scan was normal, my ESR was down from 54 to 12, and I can't remember what she said my CRP was before, but it's now 2 apparently. These figures mean nothing to me as yet, being new to all this, but she seemed to think they were good results. In a week's time she wanted me to reduce from 15mg to 12 and a half for 1 month and then 10 for a month, but I asked if I could come down slower than that, having read on here, the problems some are having with a too quick reduction. She agreed to let me reduce by 1mg per day, 15 days on each dose, so that's what I'm doing starting 1st December. Whilst I'm keen to be taking smaller doses of pred, I don't want all the symptoms to come back again. I would say at the moment I'm 90% better. Still a bit achy but nothing I can't handle.

Hope you're all having a good day, Molly.

    Hi Molly!

If you care about the numbers - those are excellent results for crp and esr. Both well in the normal range.

While reducing, if you have any return of pain that gets worse rather than settling down over a couple of weeks, don't go down again until the pain has gone, go back to the previous dose for a week or two if necessary and then try again.

    Good luck,

    Hi Eileen,

thanks for that. I asked what to do if the pain returned, and was given a blood form and told to get a test done straight away, to see what the ESR and CRP readings were, and to take it from there. I'm hoping with the slow reduction that all will be well. I was told it gets a bit more tricky when reaching 7.5, but that's in the future isn't it! I shall take it one step at a time.

Enjoying reading the posts on here, even though I don't post much myself.

    Best wishes,

    Molly.

    Hello Molly

It looks as if you are being well looked after which isnt common for a lot of people on here !!

I can get a blood test done one day and have the results the next and I hope its the same for you As Eileen says just see how you feel before reducing You might sit on a reduction for an extra month but because I thought my second bout of PMR would be like my first ( 20mg to 1mg ) pain free in a year !! I reduced when I wasnt feeling great and went from 4mg to 15 in a month and so really I have wasted 10mths by my impatience !! You are asking all the right questions of the Drs dont forget to keep records of your bloods and doesage and how you feel as you can get a bit bogged down in this and forget !!

    Best wishes Mrs G
