Good news story

I hope my story can encourage people waiting for ops....

I am seven weeks post op - anterior repair and hysterectomy. The first couple of days were a bit grim, pain, exhaustion, night sweats, constipation. Then things got easier in terms of pain etc, and I’ve followed all the advice about resting and resting some more. Off pain killers after about three weeks or so. After about three weeks I could walk about 10mins and (apart from an infection at three weeks) I’ve been building up very slowly.

Today I saw the surgeon. He says I have healed well and the op has been a success. I celebrated with a walk to and from a coffee shop with my son - 6km in all. (Too far, I’m tired now, but the fact was I did it!) And importantly, I didn’t even think about where I would find a toilet on the way!

I know that a lot of ladies have a much harder time than me, and I have been very lucky to have a fab hubby who did take on all the housework. But I hope this shows that this op can be manageable and have good results. I have certainly had low points emotionally and physically and I’m not there yet, but this has not been as bad as I thought it might be.

And from not not being able to even twitch my pelvic floor muscles six months ago, after  regular physio before and after the op and a lot of hard work, the surgeon says my pelvic floor is now much stronger, although I have still got work to do in terms of this.

Hope this helps and encourages anyone worried about things. I know I really needed some good news type stories before I went through it all.

Sue

That's fantastic news and good to read. So pleased you are doing well. I totally agree, there needs to be some good news stories to balance the risks and complications which inevitably get discussed in the forum and to reassure all those who are about to have surgery or have just had it. For sure the surgical it is not a 'breeze' nor a panacea and it can be physically and emotionally challenging .............but living with untreated prolapses is not great either!! I wish you a continued successful recovery xx

Thank you! Yes, you’re right that it’s not easy or a magic cure but can be better than doing nothing!
