    Hi Georgia,

The url has changed from patient.co.uk to patient.info, see

    https://patient.info/blogs/pro/2015/06/what-s-in-a-web-address

I'll check with the higher ups re the old domain, it may be it is going but I don't know. Will post back when I find out.

    Alan

PS can you send me the message via private message please. Thanks

I can't send you the message Alan. I only got it because I've been having computer problems and was trying to log back in. It just came up as a message and even in hindsight I couldn't have saved it.

It sounds like you may have mispelled the address and got taken to a domain for sale page. For example if you type in pateint. co. uk into your address bar. Rest assured this website is going nowhere biggrin

Ooh, I wish I hadn't clicked on your mis-spelled link!!  And no, I don't want an iPhone for £1!

And I am glad the website isn't going anywhere!

I've edited it to put spaces in, I forgot it would automatically be linked wink

I have just tried that one and Mr Google corrected the spelling

      About 114,000,000 results (0.59 seconds)

And, not having checked the entries, they all seem to be this site, incredibleexclaim

    I hope it is incorrect.

So do I Mrsmop because I really value this website and the friends I've made here.

I don't understand why there was  a reason to change it from .co .uk to .info

The way you look at most websites is they use a sub-domain for forums. So, the rest stayed the same and the forums would have been.

forums-patient-co-uk (the dashes represent dots, but if I typed that in it would go to moderation.

And why patient.info - I could understand patient-com which make it more global based, but info - I do not see the logic in that at all.

Mind you some people use xxx then wonder why they get p0rn visitors!!! LOL

Simple reason for not .com or .org - the owners of those domains wanted millions of pounds for them. I'll ask one of the devs for a full reply to all of this to post on Monday as I am no expert on these things.

Lol Les!!! lol It'd be very weird people looking for porn from sick people!

It must be very difficult to find a new domain name and 'info' just doesn't cover everything, it's not just info is it. It's also friendship, motivation, support etc but definitely not rampant sex. cheesygrin

I see what you mean about the .com - It's been set up along time ago and then dropped. In December 2012, whoever owns it blocked the contents with a robot and by the history of the domain and traffic it had they never got much interest.

I have seen that many times pay a few bucks for a .com which is a dictionary word and sell for millions, the chances of selling that are low if you check the history since the domain was registered. Even when it was running, it had more error pages - basically, just a wasted domain name when they could of done well with it on here. People are always on the make with one word dictionary domain names ending in .com

I had to laugh what this site looked like when it was first set up in October 1999 (screenshot attached). lol I went back in time to the earliest recorded date. Certainly changed a lot since then.

I'm very glad you aren't going anywhere either. This site is way to valuable for it to go down <3 >

Emis perhaps you need to snap Les up as a tech mod! He knows his stuff. biggrin

I just lauged when I look at the screen shot because of the word disclaimer! How many times am I going to have to hear that word before I flutter up to somewhere else. Why can people just say stuff without having to cover their back's legally. I should stop now or I'll end up writing a white paper and throwing it in the recycle bin. cheesygrin I've studied herbalism and have diplomas but how dare I actually use this knowledge without saying 'Don't listen to me though, go to your doctor because I haven't got a clue what I'd talking about'. Just a dufus.

Yes I know that's not what you laughed about Les You laughed because it didn't have a take the p*ss pokey out tongue emoticon that it still doesn't have. Sheesh yes. eek

Disclaimer, I'm only having fun and if anyone dies it's not my fault, anyway I've moved to Mexico.

      LOL @ Georgia!

I looked at that screenshot and laughed at this part "This site is designed to be viewed at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 in 64,000 colour"..

Long gone are those days! These days its 24" Monitors as standard and connected via HDMI with screen resolutions of 1920 x 1080, with 16 Million colours. A very big difference, most people would think, but it's on the change again to 4k Picture quality better than a standard Blu-ray player.

If you buy a 3D TV or 3D Blu-ray these days your just throwing money away again. 3D has been tried 3 times in the past, everytime it fails to take off. You can buy Blu-ray discs, but if you will notice 3D movies are gradually becoming less and less. 3DTV's have been dropping by £100's because they are pushing them on the consumer because of the fall in the market.

We have two 3D Bu-ray players - no 3D discs, and they are connected to standard HDMI TV's not 3D, because I seen the drop way before it was dropping off. I picked up two HDMI TV's a 37" and a 42" for under £400 for both, cheap yes - both I got from one of the Black Friday sales. These were all brand new and no delivery charges.

I like watching the David Attenborough BBC Video Collection in blu-ray, the quality of nature is just stunning in vivid colours.

@ Georgia - me as a Tech Mod, no that does not interest me. There are reasons, and Alan would enlighten you about being a moderator is not an easy job!! It is easy to become unliked by people on forums. I've been there before, you need a set of rules so all people stick to them.

      Regards,

      Les.

She talked to me about website titles, well difficult. The best I could come up with was dontexpecttoomuch .com!

I advised her not to use fatigue in the title.

Is this the Les & Georgia show? twisted

I looked at that screenshot and laughed at this part "This site is designed to be viewed at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 in 64,000 colour"..

Yup, I know all about that too, it's called Safe Mode!  Currently having problems with explorer.exe so any suggestions that don't include reinstalling windows, would be gratefully recd..

Yes, takes a bow. Thanks for appearing in it the show mrsmop, big round of applause everybody. biggrin

I've been having such problems with browsers. Is it something to do with that they're all competing too hard?

    • Posted

What browser do you use Georgia?  I use Opera
    • Posted

I've never tried that one. I used to use IE but I can't get it back now because, google chrome is acting like it doesn't doesn't want me to. I've tried Firefox and google doesn't want me being unfaithful with that either. Google seems to be settling down after the big tantrums but who knows what next?

I might wake up from my afternoon nap to find pots and pans being thrown at me from the screen and divorce papers in the post! lol

Ha ha,  I have IE, Chrome and Opera on my machine and if ever Opera plays up, I use one of the others!  I also use Opera mail, mainly to store my mail in case of major disasterseek which happen occasionally.

I could give it a go if I get more disasters, thanks! Or maybe not wait for them but installing it first might be better. Doh! cheesygrin

My browser is amazing, it's Firefox! LOL

And I run many addons and extensions, basically to keep myself safe. And I check my 'hosts' file every week, just in case some pest has got through, but thats rare. It's the hosts file that can redirect your browser to different sites or even a site that looks like your bank, but in reality it isn't. Many people get caught on this, and its how the site gets all your login details, and will normally say Under Maintenance after you login, by which time, they have all your banking details.

Oh mrsmop how can you listen to Opera? I prefer PItbull.... LOL lol

Many a true word spoken in jest cheesygrin

I listen to Opera and use the Opera browser with its many add ons etc..  I sync all my links to my various other gadgets and what have youcool

I just don't like Firefox, have tried it now and then but don't like it.  Used Thunderbird for a while but then changed to eMail Client, cheaper than Outlook.  Still have Outlook 2007 but it's a bit primitive now

Ah, I see we use Office 365, which is all the programs online and offline. It costs us £7.99 a month, but we mainly bought it our daughter in school. She does her homework on her PC, and that requires Powerpoint on many projects, and Word.

I wouldn't mind the school paying for it, but for £7.99 a month that covers 5 licences across PC,s and 5 across Tablets. So, I guess in that respect it is not too bad.

I really need to sync my Outlook calender to my Android phone, the amount of appointments I have a month is ridiculous. rolleyes

I prefer death and melodic metal Les! That's genres not actual death in case anyone gets that wrong. cheesygrin

      Did I disclaim enough?

    • Posted

Just to add why I hate that word, EITHER CLAIM OR DON'T CLAIM BUT DON'T COP OUT WITH DISCLAIM!!! How about EXPLAIN if you're offtering advice but we're not allowed to. Darn insurance companies; money makers, control freaks, they never have to use the word DISCLAIMER, or rather they type it so small that only ants with glasses can read it.

Ah that rant was like a good cup of tea, only better. razz
