Hi what kind are you having? X

I'm having total abdominal bso, doing a vertical incision, I'm really worried about the pain, I'm a real wimp!

I remember that feeling well, it was my one year anniversary on the 15th December, you will be fine I'm sure, how are you having it done? Mine was vaginally, it's great to not be bleeding anymore. 😃

vertical abdominal, what is the pain relief like after? What did they give you for a vaginal hysterectomy? How long were you in hospital? X

I personally never needed any pain relief, I had a spinal block and GA for the op itself. But didn't need anything after, I was offered paracetamol and ibuprofen, I was in hospital for 3 days.

Gillygirl, good luck I'm 13 day post op. Full hysterectomy except ovaries. It was laprocactic with vaginal assist. I had a spinal block and GA during surgery. Post surgery the MEDS they were shooting into my IV made me sick and I had MAJOR headaches, so they switched me to just Motrin; btw I only stayed one night in the hospital. Post pain is not bad the first week. I actually felt good just super sore, as if I had done a million sit ups. Right I am experiencing some spotting and vaginal spasms but I've been told that just because my inter stitches are dissolving. I have my 2 week check up on Tuesday the 29 so we'll see what my doc says.. My advice to you is, REST REST REST REGARDLESS of how good you feel. Remember your body is healing from the inside so you NEED TO REST! Good luck!

Hi.  I had my TAH + BSO on 24 November and I remember the nervous feeling so well.. My incision had to be vertical due to large ovarian cyst and fibroid. Spent alot of time reading, trawling the internet and asking people about it beforehand and the piece of info I found most positive and correct was "don't worry about the actual surgery, It's a piece of cake!" this from a close friend and my partner, both of whom have had major abdominal surgery in the last 6 months. I felt like I was joining the club! It was true for me too. I was so frightetned beforehand I considered running away, but anaesthetic was simple and comfortable, had GA and spinal anaesthesia, then woke up calm and pain free in recovery area. Remaining pain over next few days was totally controlled by morphine intravenously and then orally for 24h then by paracetamol and ibuprofen. I was so happy that surgery was done, I think it overcame any discomfort. Now I take occasional paracetamol and I'm improving daily. There is some pain, but I believe I had got used to pain before the op, so I'm better able to deal with it than I thought. I wonder if this might be the same for you? Overall, looks like this has been a very positive step, my 6 week review next week, then on to the HRT... So glad I had it done it's been a fab, if quiet Christmas. I still remember feeling there wasn't much positive stuff on the internet, or maybe one only remembers the scary bits?.. I hope it goes well for you, will watch this post in case you have any questions as it sounds like your surgery is similar to mine.x
