metformin is used to treat insulin resistant diabetes. when women are insulin resistant it is hard for sugar in blood to get into cells because the cell wall are resistant to the insulin, or the key, to get the sugar/energy into cell. this makes your body kick out even more insulin trying to get it to work. so you have a very high level of insulin which causes a cascade of problems. it will cause women to have a too high testosterone level, can cause acne, rapid weight gain, hair loss or thinning, and the hormone imbalance inhibits eggs from developing correctly resulting in polycystic ovaries.metformin enables the cell to accept the insulin to allow the energy in, therefore the insulin levels stay normal and returns the other resulting problems back to normal because the metformin treats the root cause. many times women start to ovulate and are able to conceive after starting metformin because of this.
