Hello Hayley,
Sorry to read that you are finding things difficult in your life at the moment. It must be really stressful for you if you are considering self harming.
I am 53 years of age and have self harmed for about 20 years. It is only in the last 6 years that I have stopped harming. I used to cut myself, not deep, as a form of stress release. I did so making sure I used sterilised blades because of infection.
The legacy of this coping strategy is plain to see, I have permanent tiger like striped scares up both my arms. They look terrible and I am forever conscious of them when I am out in public.
There are other strategies similar to self harming/cutting that won't leave horrible and unsightly scars. One is to wear an elastic band on the wrist and in times of stress just twang the band hard against the skin. Obviously this hurts but it also releases chemicals that cutting releases, thus it calms you down a little.
Please avoid cutting yourself if you possibly can. There is always the danger of septicaemia and that can be life threatening. Look at self harming information online. Look at alternative coping strategies. And most important, learn about you as a person, your mind, what is going on inside of you.
I look at it as, if you are going to battle an adverse effect that is taking place inside of your mind, then learn everything about this adversary. In later life you will find that is where the answers lie, " simple understanding".

I would see a doctor as soon as you can, there's no need to cut yourself and this won't help matters.
I feel for you because like many we want to self harm but with help and talking about your situation you'll feel a lot better. It doesn't make the problems go away but helps to deal with them better.
Thanks
Neil
