gout and allopurinoll

Has anyone stopped take allopurinoll after taking it for a couple of years, i would like to stop because of the side effects but i'm worried that i will have a instant attack if I do so, I have had gout for about 3 years I find it hard to accept that you cant cure this, have tried so many things such as apple cider vinigar, nettle tea but was told by my doctor to stop because i had a very high iron level in my blood, I was thinking of trying to reducing my allopurinoll and starting to take natural product instead

also has any heard of pandan leaves.

IF you're going to stop taking any drug make sure you wean yourself off. I don't trust many doctors after my experiences. I have psuedo gout and have been taking bromelain which comes from pineapple, also tumeric and no longer eat much meat. I grow organic fruit and veggies. I've recently started juicing so I don't know if it helps yet. For pain there's a pretty good natural product called Pain RX (buy at health food store or Amazon has it.). The only other suggestion would be to try celery seed, I heard it worked so I am going to try.

Good luck, this pain can really get to you.

They do say that you are better off not to juice but to eat fruit and veg unjuiced as it can affect the fructose structure and destroy the vitamins etc. One expert said that drinking juiced fruit was like drinking Coca Cola. I think that is pushing it a bit, but I suppose the message is that it is better not to juice.

Herbs and holistic meds have been used (with success) for thousands of years. Way before man screwed things up by using dangerous chemicals that cause many other problems. But it is each person's choice.

I truly hope you all find something that works for you.

I have an intolerance to Allopurinol so only take 100mg a day but also take Benzbromarone 100mg and Colchincine 500mcg

You should ask your GP to refer you to a Rheumatology expert so they can alter the medication accordingly, i certainly wouldn't recommend stopping the treatment until you have seen an expert

I have also tried taking concentrated cherry juice and vitamin C but herbal treatments will take time to kick in so it depends how long you want to put up with the gout pain and discomfort

My gout is more or less under control now so i will keep taking the prescribed drugs for now

    Thanks

    1. What side effects are you currently experiencing?

    2. The gout will not return instantly but after a number of months it is likely to do so.

    3. Would you prefer gout to your current side effects?

    4. Frankly, I would have severe reservations about stopping a treatment that is managing this painful and disabling disease.

    5. My view (as a allopurinol taker) is that the drugs work and thank god for that!!

    a further comment.

GP's are a useful asset to the health service.

However, they are not specialists in gout ... they are "generalists".

So don't expect great expertise from a GP about gout.  If you need then you should find a specialist (which is what I did).   After all, would you ask a carpenter to fix your plumbing??

    (Stick with the allopurinol too!)

My G .P laughed when I  went to him with my gout, something about rich man illness, I am on 300mg of allopurinol and have been for 2 years, I have suffered from a irritable bowl since i started taking allo, I also have high iron levels in my blood which my doctors say they are not anything to do with allo, but indirectly it  is because i have tried to change my diet to compensate  for the bowl problem I eat a lot of eggs and gluten free bread both full of iron, I have managed my gout well, I dont have gout pain at the moment my last flare was feb 2015 so not to bad, your right about G.P'S but getting them to refer  you is sometime not easy.

I stopped taking allopurinoll. And started eat to make my body more alkaline or less acidic. I'm probably still above normal with my uric acid level. But I've not had an attack in 18 months. Don't think there is one or two foods that will do the trick. It's the total of every thing you eat and drink. Look up gout diet, gout foods,Web MD, ect. learn what to avoid and what to eat to become more alkaline, lower your triglicerides, lose weight, avoid high purine foods, exercise some, cut back on sugar ( sodas, sweets, candy, HFCS) don't drink acid drinks like gator aid, iced tea, fruit juices. Pure cherry juice with no added sweetner of any kind is good. Alkaline water, low fat milk on cereal are good. Drink lots of water every day.

Learn what to eat and you can do it also. I use to skip breakfast and make up for it later, don't do it eat a good breakfast and some fruit everyday. It keeps you from going for the junk foods which are full of carbs, sugar, and acidic.

Good luck It's working for me. I also used Phgreens with water until I was pain free. Just one teaspoon in a glass of water/ day. Now not as often once every few weeks. Basicly increase your Vegetables and fruits / day and decrease your meats especially fatty meats. I eat chicken or fish 90% of the time now. 10% other meats. I'm totaly pain free now, you can do it, I didn't think I could but with time and determination to be pain free I made it in about 3 months.
