Gout blood test

Just got back from the GP with suspected gout, after reading online I saw blood tests should be taken 4-6 weeks after getting gout but my gp has booked me in next week for a blood test, anyone know for what reason this may be? All help appreciated. Thanks.

I think the serum uric acid test is normally carried out four to six weeks after an attack of gout as it is not normally raised at the actual time of the gout attack. I believe gout is very painful, I hope you get it sorted out OK.

Drink lots of water to help your body flush the uric acid crystals that form usually around toes and cut back on protein. I do not need to take any gout meds because I make sure I drink enough water or some liquid like coffee, etc (6-8 glasses) every day. No sugary drinks! Sounds simple but really works.

I've had gout (left big toe) for three years. Keep it under control with Alolpurinol 300mg daily.

The blood test is not confirmative for gout. If you want confirmation of gout, do the microscopic study for synovial fluid of the joint affected. If they find uric acid crystals under the microscope, then you have gout.
