Gout in both feet/toes/ankles

Hello all,

Been suffering with gout on and off for 20 years. Male in my early fifties now and keep myself in great condition. Lift weights and keep my muscles in top shape. Eat fairly healthy and avoid a lot of purine-rich foods. Don't drink any alcohol ever.

I do have stage 2 liver disease, stage 3 kidney diseasel, and high blood pressure. My nephrologist has advised me not to take any NSAIDS. I can't take colchicine even the slightest makes me sick and is not good for the organs anyhow. Forget indocin...I almost went to the ER after taking it because my heart started racing, couldn't catch my breath, and I generally felt like was going to go into cardiac arrest. Do to my other health issues, taking Allipurinol or the like to mitigate further attacks is out of the question.

I've been in shear agony for 10 days. Started in my right great toe, then the left great toe, the left ankle, and now it's in all of those and the second last toe on the right foot. I'm so p*ssed and depressed, I can't even put it into words. No sleep, can't work, in constant pain with no medication to help me. I can't put any pressure on the joints without excruciating pain and I'm crawling around the house. I'm literally out of my mind with this crap.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything and I appreciate you reading it.

You might also try Malic Acid. This is a concentrated form derived from green apples. It is involved in the Kreb Cycle (The chemical cycle that produces enegy within our cells) I had noticed that when I was taking this before a liver cleanse regimen, the pain from gout disappeared. I always thought it was the cleanse doing it but came across references where it had been used for Gout to dissolve the uric acid crystals in the joints. Tried it without the cleanse and and taking one of these a day with meals along with celery seed works for me. I'm trying to stay as far away from drugs as possible. For now, this is working. Was 'living healthy' but found I was eating too much fructose from all the fruit I was eating. Had to cut that back. There does not seem to be a one size fits all solution. Trial and error is called for here.

    Hey there sabre0492,

I am so sorry for all of the pain you are going through with gout. My husband has also been suffering for over 10 years. The attack he has currently sounds exactly like your first post. It's been a month and a half and he is crawling around on the floor bc of the pain. He has had steroid shots, oral steroids, cholicine, allpurinol, indo, and bla bla bla...nothing is working and he is straight up suffering. I'm scared he is ruining his kidneys. What is the last way with your gout? Has anything worked and what were the sign of kidney disease for you? PLEASE HELP!

hi new to any of theses forums but this seems most recent in general terms - totally in sympathy with you on the pain there - I can hardly walk and finally rang the doc - story below I'm totally confused re the whole gout mystery but seems like a lot of knowledge on here!

    • had a couple of attacks over a few years - quite bad but didn't know what they were, anyway long story short - spoke to a doc - no tests but gout diagnosed - took naproxen on and off for bad back so advised to take that for my sore toe - did that - iced - elevated etc. so worked then....

couple of years ago had undiagnosed swollen right side ankle for several months - tests for everything - blood tests- ecg- cardiograph- ultrasound- dopplerscan- anyway half through all this decided to clean my act up re diet/booze etc ( unresolved swelling was scaring me) so 80-20 alcohol free and water instead of fizzy drinks etc etc- anyway about 3 weeks into this 'clean time' i got gout in my big toe (rhside) which then moved to outside foot- inner side ankle - foot arch - then my already swollen ankle became sore as well! Finally sent to rheumatology to test for gout but uric was low blah blah - anyway kept the 80/20 going for few months - resorted to Napro to manage but really sore all the time - then told ankle might be autoimmune something - anyway end result after all this over about 9 months in total - my ankle reverted to normal - no pain - no treatment- no diagnosis - but fine ever since.

Till now ! with type 2 diabetes - had a slightly low kidney function and ferritin reading - in Dec - necessitating 2nd tests which by mere fact scared me - so decided after research to hydrate properly and gave the booze 80/20 - and nothing but water/ T to drink and after about four weeks have really bad gout! which has developed slowly over 2 week period - initial sore toe was a just a wee bit after very long walk - what is happening? - this new regime is supposed to b good for me ! Didn't take napro because of kidney count - upped water after researching both tests - now slightly improved results (BP has improved - blood glucose improved + some weight loss )

is it the sudden change to water ? I really don't quite understand - why is healthier habit making me have gout? seems a bit of co incidence with last time

How does that work ....any insight gratefully received - can hardly walk today but got some colchicine today to take for 3 days - never taken it before but found this forum whilst googling it!

Saw your reaction to it so I' m hoping I don't have the same reaction to but I guess I'm about to find out ! Bit of a long story but hoping some followers of these threads might pick up

Totally understand your need to vent - this whole things seems so difficult to resolve and I'm only at the beginning

    thanks fir listening
