You must have had some good medication. I’m 60 yrs old and two weeks ago I had a total anterior hip replacement. Three days ago I saw my doctor for the 1st time since my surgery. He said I better walk into his office without a walker or cain when I see him again in 4 was. I started using cain today. This is the worst pain I’ve had yet . I have cried and cried. Would it be best for me to switch off cain and walker or just suffer with cain?

I never had a walker but started out with two crutches. When I saw the physio for my 2 week visit I was only on one crutch and he told me off! At 4 weeks he said I could go onto a cane, and by 6 weeks without.

People recover at different rates. Find a long mirror and walk towards it using a cane. If you aren’t limping at all or walking lopsided you should be okay. If you haven’t got a mirror ask a friend or family member to watch you and tell you if you are limping.

But best of all, ask your physio, That’s what they are there for - to give you advice as well as exercises.

Should also add that you need your cane to be the correct length and your physio can advise you on this if you don’t know how to measure it.
