Granuloma Annulare

Posted , 5 users are following.

I first had a small patch on my ankle when I was 7 years old. After 18months of appointments with a dermatologist, I was finally diagnosed with Granuloma Annulare. That small patch did disappear at one stage, but soon returned, and grew much bigger, almost covering the top of my foot. Another patch soon came on the other foot. I am now 28 years old, and the patches on my feet are still there, much larger then years ago. I have large patches of it on my hips, and my groin, and my buttocks. The one lot now joins, from the front top of my thigh, right under my leg, and joins with the patch under my buttocks. About a year ago, I noticed yet another patch forming, and another. I now have a new patch on the upper arm, which last week looked like a christmas tree, but this week, it doesn't, so I can tell this patch is growing quickly, and ever changing. I now have a large patch which goes around my belly button, and looks very red.

I was only ever offered a course of steroid cream at the age of 7, which did little but made the skin very thin, and vulnerable. I have been offered nothing since, and was told that it will go away on its own accord. I think I must be a mystery to medical science, because mine has not gone away after more than twenty years, and new patches are still appearing. Anybody out there who understands how gross it looks, I would appreciate a message. After 20 years, it's getting me down! :?

sad have just found this site and identified with all messages,I finally got a diagnosis last year after 7 months of being told i had ringworm on my hand and being told to be patient and keep applying the cream!!! finally got referred to a skin specialist who told me straight away what i had.I now have these lumps and bumps on both arms, hands, back of neck and hairline, legs, and more appearing on my trunk. I use creams but take forever to apply and get fed up when they wipe off on my clothes, sick of comments asking if have burnt myself or asking what lumps are!!easier to wear longs sleeve tops and trousers, tho do get very down about it. My maternal auntie had it on her arms but she is diabetic and after 4 years hers is going.....my specialist seems to think mine will go after 2 years but not holding my breath, do get so fed up..... would love more info on chinese medicine, will try anything

In reply to all, I have no found my cure - a gluten wheat allergy! After cutting out all gluten and wheat from my diet my GA had now nearly completely disappeared. I had it really badly for over 10 years, it was a horrific red colour covering all my legs and hands. Now I can wear skirts and shorts and no-one notices unless I point it out to them. I'm not sure if this will get to you as your posts were written in 2008 but if it does please let me know, equally if this info helps you. Look up posts in the US too, the doctors over there seem to agree wheat gluten allergy is often the cause. Good luck!
