I was suffering from GA for a long time but eventually had light treatment at the hospital I had to have a bath in a special liquid Or take a tablet so my skin would react to the UV light PUVA after 6 months of treatment twice a week gradually building up from a few seconds to a total of 12 minutes in the UV light & the GA cleared up with no recurrence

    Hi mags,

Thanks so much for the response! Could you share a little bit more info on your GA? Location, intensity, coverage, etc? Also, how long has it been since the therapy? And, have you changed anything else about your life style outside of the therapy?

    Thanks!

I had GA for about 6 years it started on my foot as a ring then eventually worked its way up all over both legs a small patch on my, back & both arms. I tried all the creams etc prescribed by my dr. It was so bad I wouldn't go out without my arms & legs being covered. I was referred to the hospital dermatology department & the Dr said PUVA light treatment was one of the treatments. She didn't want me to have it as I have epilepsy & said I could have a seizure in the light box but I was desperate so my epilepsy nurse contacted them to tell them I get warnings & would be able to get out of the light box before I had a seizure. After a couple of months they agreed & it took 6 months of twice weekly sessions. I would go to the hospital have a bath in the PUVA liquid that was mixed in the bath water & started off at a few seconds building up in seconds each time until I reached 12 minutes of light treatment on my last session. That hat be at least 4 years ago and I haven't had a recurrence since

Also I can't say I have changed my lifestyle as to how I was I'm still taking drugs for arthritis & epilepsy, I've also had to have major surgery since but it didn't come back I just developed multiple blood clots in both lungs due to surgery but as for the GA that's still clear. I was a vegetarian before I had GA & am still so don't eat anything different.

    Mags,

I have had GA for 2 years and it is on my arms, hands, legs, and feet. I like others wear long pants and long sleeves to cover my GA.  So, thank you so much for posting this as I am starting light therapy Sept 4th and hope it works!

Thanks so much for the info, Mags! That is so great to hear. I will have to look into that therapy, as well. Has anyone else tried light therapy?
