I am wondering if everbodies eyes get really bulgy when you have got graves disease and if its possible for them to go down like is there any treatments for it. I think I have hyperthyroidism and i really dont want to feel like poop anymore. I think I will get my thyroid removed.

    Hello dom114.

I posted to you earlier. smile

I re-read your post and realized that you mentioned that you think you have hyperthyroidism. That made me wonder if you've actually been seen by a medical doctor to have that confirmed. It's really important to be seen because along with this disease you must get control of your racing heartbeat and your blood pressure, which are a big part of this disease. You may also be put on an anti-thyroid medication. If you can find a good doctor who will want to find the cause of your disease, that would be ideal.

Do not think like me cos Noone told me otherwise that you have to accept alife of disfigurement!!!  After almost 11 years I'm ready to go through correction process it was never offered to me nor did the endo refer me to an eye specialist!  Long story   And a damn disgrace!

For this not only thyroids but you need to check with blood and urine samples to confirm about this diseases. You can check your eyes with glaucoma issues also need to get diagnosed properly with brain may be with CT scan.

My advice to you is to have surgery or the pills, do NOT take Radio Active Iodine, as I did that in 2007 and now I have enormous problems with my eyes..........

Not everybody get bulgy eyes, I had RAI and my eyes did not get bulgy until after that was done.  Wish I had never done any of it.  Nearly 10 years later, my eyes started to bulge, I had double vision in one eye, so I had a 3 wall orbital decompression in that eye, nearly 2 years ago now.  Then they decided I needed a biopsy of the muscle in that eye.  I later had steroid infusions for 12 weeks, once a week, and radiation for 2 weeks once a day.  10 treatments.  NOTHING has done me any good.  My eyes bulge, now they are puffy around them, I get a blister like on my left eye, I wish I had never went to anyone about this.  Except maybe the levothryoxin which I take daily.  My daughter has hyperthyroidism since she was little, her eyes bulged but once they started treatment and surgery, she is fine now, my brother also had the same, but he did not have RAI.  That is what I think made the difference for me.....

Thank you for sharing your experience.  I have heard patients say they got eye disease 7 years after RAI.  Wish docs would either know this or tell their patients as one of the possible problems with this treatment.

I also have Graves, and a small issue with my left eye. in 2015, the dr put me on steroids for the eye, 4mg for 3 months and then for another 4 months on 2mg, after being on for seven total months i was having awful side effects to the steroids. Losing my hair, memory, confusion, weight gain, angry all the time, it was awful. He still wants me to stay on 2mg and i said no, i'll try something else. I seen a specialist for my eyes last month. My left eye is 3mm bigger the right, i also had a MRI to see what is going on behind and it's normal. He said you won't go blind or anything, it's just a cosmetic issue when the eye buldges. I also understand stress can make it worse. I'm hoping not as i'm going to be doing an international move in fall. I did read it was an older study (2011) but they seen good results with Selenium 100mg, has anybody else try this? What about diet, anybody have any good suggestions?
