Graves Disease: Hyperthyroidism to Hyperthyroidism and mucus in throat

i am writing this in hope to help others with autoimmune thyroid disorders. I WENT THROUGH MAJOR emotional distress trying to figure out what was wrong. Basically i thought i was dying of some terminal illness. AFTER months of feeling bad in ways hard to explain, I have been diagnosed with GRAVES DISEASE. it began with HYPERTHYROIDISM. feeling just unwell all the time. rapid heartbeat, up all night, rapid weight loss, pain in my muscles, headache, vision problems, depression, missed periods, weakness etc. First I thought it was the changes (I AM 48). i went to my OBGYN, an orthopedic surgeon, eye doctor, Primary CARE PHYSICIAN, , gastroentrologist, and finally an ENDOCRINOLOGIST . I was out on METHIMAZOLE first 5mg a day then 5mg 2xs a day. I was also on BETA BLOCKERS 25mg a day. i had rapid affects to the meds. STILL feeling unwell and depressed for months. i was paranoid the doctors were wrong and I WAS dying. EVEN went to the ER with fear from a sore throat constantly. I read online if you have a sore throat it could be the METHIMAZOLE. My white blood count was normal although the ER did not check my Obgyn did. AFTER 4 months on meds i became HYPO! I WENT TO 5mg of METHIMAZOLE A DAY and now im on 5mg a day skipping WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS. THE ONE ISSUES i have now....constant throat phlegm and cough. I have to spit out at night to clear up. im still working on getting rid of this horrible sounding cough and PHLEGM in my chest. I searched online and found that HYPO and this condition can cause this. ALSO MY phlegm is completely clear. THIS HAS BEEN THE HARDEST ILLNESS I HAVE EVER HAD. I feel fir anyone going through this and know its hard to make family and friends understand. I FELT ANNOYING and depressed I COULDN'T be my positive, energetic self. just wanted to stay home. I DIDNT HAVE PATIENCE AND GOT IRRITATED SO EASILY. As a mom of 3 I felt horrible. THERE IS HOPE! I'm still working to get my levels to normal, but came a long way! I searched for answers online and when i saw patience stories i realized I WAS NOT CRAZY! GOD BLESS AND KEEP FIGHTING THE FIGHT! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I WILL POST UPDATES AFTER MY NEXT BLOOD TESTS IN TWO WEEKS!

Your story sounds exactly like mine however mine started when i was in my twenties im now 52.

I still remember those lost years and currently im suffering from post nasal drip and im sure its linked to thyroid. I had a partial thyroidectomy years ago and now im hyperthyroid again and back on the medication.

SO Sorry to hear you're hyper again. Hope you're feeling okay and get off meds soon! It was definitely a frustrating journey, and I searched high and low for answers. I will never forget feeling so alone and scared. more so that I swore my kids would grow up without me. I was so thankful for other patients stories once I found websites like this. I had to share my experience even if just one person found hope and help to not feel so scared and alone. I wish you all the best, and THANK YOU for replying to my story!❤

I'm much better than i was this time. yes its really nice ti hear others stories too. I've got 4 daughters so no doubt one of them may suffer from this a some point in their lives bit atleast i will know the warning signs. Theres always a solution to a problem it just might take years to find it . And yes its great ti have others post their stories as you realise you are not going mad !!!
