groin discomfort

went back to work after 8 weeks right hip replacement.  Work two 10 hour days doing X-rays at hospital.  Now have groin pain.  Is it just because I haven't used these muscles in a while?  I'm hoping I'm not ruining my hip?  Anybody else had this happen?

I didn't go back to work for 12 weeks and then on short days for a couple more weeks...don't overdo it or it will set you back !

Nina,  I just started back to work at l2 weeks post op right hip replacement.

I am only doing l -3 hour shift and then the next day a 2 hour shift.  I work retail so I am standing.

I noticed right away that the pain I had was not on my operated hip but my other leg (which is waiting to be replaced next summer).

I spoke to my physiotherapist (I go twice a week and do my l5 exercises twice daily).  She said that it is slow but surely and to keep up my exercises.

I don't know if you are still doing physio (but I would suggest keeping it up or starting it if you aren't already doing it).

Some workplaces let you do a modified program and it looks like you may have to do a two split shifts if this is possible.

Wishing you the best of luck...you have passed the first hurdle, surgery and recovery, so now you have to devote time to returning to work safely.

    Good luck, Patricia from Toronto

    Hi

Sorry to sound negative but bottom line is too much too soon.

Admitidly Im 65 and had my hip replaced in August but it is major surgery and we all recover at different rates. But Im just off my sticks unless Im alone or ground is rough and still have problems driving more than 40 mins.

I guess your job is on your feet all day so listen to your body and obey it - its better in the long term.

I would deffo say it's too much for now being on your feet for ten hours a day. Can you renegotiate your hours down or ask your gp to sign you off. Eight weeks is nothing in terms of recovery after such a major operation. There is a huge myth around thr that one is back to normal in a few weeks and one will be the same as before. It doesn't work like that. Give yourself a break and be kind to yourself.

Hi..i was just released at twelve weeks left hip. Now with that said Ive had both hips replaced within the past six months.i have found that at abt the 7-8 week mark i did have some groin pain. It may very well be muscles..maybe over doing it. i am currently feeling pretty good but that may change tomorrow. Upon my release the doctor said two things...take it easy and for the rest of my life i must take an antibiotic before any dental work. On your days off i would really take it easy. Also it takes a good year for all of the kinks to work out. Good luck!

    Hi Nina

I think you are expecting too much of your self. It as it was about 3-4 months before I felt ok again. Give it chance and you will be fine. Don't forget your muscles, tendons, nerves  have all got to heal and it takes time to heal.  C

Hello Nina, I went back to work modified 4 hours a day at 6months, I was in so much pain I had revised thr. Everybody's different listen to your body, for me I couldn't work so I'm back on disability. I worked retail in health food store. I'm back at physical therapy 3x week. Take it slow best of luck

Sorry my reply i so late - Blame the website  !!!!

IMHO you've gone back to work much too soon.  As others have said - we all heal at different rates - and it sounds like you're just not ready  Fortunately I've retired - but I certainly would not have gone back as soon as you.  Try to relax,  and build up your thigh muscles.  Hope it all works out OK.
