Groin pain - 5 1/2 weeks PO

Posted , 5 users are following.

i have been following many discussions and frequently see comments about groin pain.

I am on one cane but cannot step without it as I limp and have groin pain. One or 2 of my exercises causes groin pain - should I not do them? I see surgeon for follow up next Friday...

I'm in the same boat..this week will be 5 weeks. I  decided not to push it. My PT therapist wants me to practice a little at home without the cane but I  can't do much of that without the pain tho my I'm limping less. I  think it's a matter of getting the muscles stronger. I think we'll get there in time. My back has really started to bother me too but I had compression fractures in my lower back a year and a half ago so this condition hasn't been good on it. Will have to talk to my surgeon when I  see him. Hang in..I bet in a couple of weeks we won't need the cane.

      Dear Karen

Please read what I have just suggested to the OP regard using two arm crutches as this is the safest way forward for a good recovery.

You mention back pain. Walking badly can be the reason for back pain either before of after hip surgery.

      Good luck. Richard

I would strongly suggest that you should use two arm crutches until you are walking strongly without any limping and with a good gait. This will help you to retrain your body to walk correctly and help to avoid damaging your back by walking twisted.

You will help your recovery by doing the exercises but reduce any that cause you pain until your doctor consultation.

    Good luck. Richard

The beginning to walk thing is rough. I had huge swelling at week one, that out me in wheel chair for a week. I then went from walker to cane at pt. And then cane only on rough ground, which is every day for me. But my lerch walk continued with it. My pt guy (also a good friend) told me it's more mind issues. You have to train yourself to step heel to toe and push off with toe. If I think about it, I walk perfect , if I don't I limp. My pt guy told me it will come naturally with time but you have to re train your mind to walk correct. And yes after surgery groin pain gone, three weeks later it's back , with all kinds of weird pains, cramps, spasms and so on. But I think this is all part of healing. I am 40 , the right side posterior, and had a swelling set back at week two that was really bad. I just finished week 12, and I walked through the woods today, but had to really watch every step and also keep thinking to push off with the foot so not to limp. Anything exercise that causes great pain should be looked at by the dr or pt people . Good luck

I am LTHR.. 62 ..I can walk big city blocks but am beat at the end. I am riding encumbent bike 25 minutes at 12 mph...

i have a rock hard limp/bump at hip site but as soon as I relax, it goes away

Sonetines I feel as if I am sitting on a hard ball..other tines it is by incision.

For the most part, I am pretty good.

i was back at a busy job last week and try to walk around the warehouse 3 or 4 tines a day.

i am afraid of certain movements and don’t know if I should push or back off...

i will be glad to get surgeons opinion.

My physiotherapy always advised to listen to pain. If while doing the exercises there is a sharp pain, then tell your physiotherapist. It might be too soon. Good luck.

I agree with Chuck. After a knee op when I limped. Physio saiid you need to.learn to walk again heel/toe. I used this after my hip op but I also did the exercises and short walks. I was off of crutches at 6 weeks. This was despite having had an infection and nerve damage and was down to one crutch at week 4. Physio said get off of those. I did find though that when I was tired i tended to vere to the right. Had to stop stand straight and start again. Im 26 months post op and occadionalky get groin pain whrn musvles are tight. Good luck you will get there.
