groin pain 5 years on

Hi, I am booked in to have my right hip replaced on 6th August. I am hoping it all goes well although I am very nervous. I had my left hip replaced in 2015 and everything has been fine but for the last few months I am getting pain in the groin when I lift my leg when exercising, and flexing my leg. I am really worried that there is something wrong. Has anyone got any ideas. Thanks in advance

You sound as if you are pretty good, there is no way I have been able to do any exercise since the beginning of the year. Groin pain is pretty common. Where are you having your hip done?

hi ptolemy I am having the op at RNOH in Stanmore where i had my left hip done I know groin pain is common after the op but am worried that this has come in gradually in the last year . I was hoping someone would say "I had that but it went away". Praying it won't need a revision of some kind. Have you had your op?

No I am still waiting, I am on a list! Last time I had mine on the NHS but this time I decided to go privately. I may have been better using the NHS as I am on the list but no dates yet because the hospital is rented out to the NHS.

The son of a friend of mine is a surgeon operating on hips at Stanmore. He sent me a photo of himself in PPE. He has to wear a lead apron as part of it. He says it is boiling hot. Having to wear a mask into the shops today I really sympathise, wearing just a mask for a few minutes is pretty horrendous.

Hey might be my surgeon! He is quite young, I have been bumped down twice from the surgeon I saw last year, who put me on the list, as neither of those is operating at the moment. The surgeon I had in 2015 emigrated to Australia. He was really good. Good luck with your wait, have you emailed them to jog their memory?

I had an email from the surgeon's secretary saying she will let me know when things change!!

      Hi Ptolemy,

Why would he have had a lead apron on was he taking an x-ray? Just curious as I had an op on my arm a month ago after breaking it a few days before. Everyone and there were a few of them going into theatre were dressed pretty normally when I was being given the G.A. Just the normal white plastic apron. Very few had a mask on in day surgery ward to be honest.

I believe when they are doing hips they do xrays to check leg length or somesuch. I am not sure of the details though.

thanks hope4cure (great name BTW). I was so pleased with my hip from 2015 and was happy to tell everyone what a great result but maybe it will now need to be looked at. I must stay positive for my next op.

Is it possible you have some sort of strain in your left groin because you have been walking unevenly to try to compensate for the problem in your right hip?

I hope so - good luck with the op and I hope both sides settle quickly.

Thanks Joan, that could be the reason, if so it should be easy to solve.
