Groin pain

Hi everyone,
I had RTHR last February and everything has been great - operation was successful and recovery was great. I had LTHR 3 months ago and have had constant groin pain. The whole experience has been different and although I knew not to expect the two experiences to be the same I had hoped that by now I would be getting back to 'normal' and be painfree! However, instead of the pain getting better it seems to be getting worse. There was a day last week that I literally couldn't put any weight on my leg at all. Any ideas what could be causing this? Also, we don't get any physical therapy here - just a sheet with exercises to follow. I wondered if I should go and see a physio or wait to see specialist nurse as I have an appointment to see her later this month?!!

There's no harm in seeing a physio. If it is pain based on weight bearing, there's a very good chance it is muscular and a physio can help. This seems to be something that comes up pretty often in connection with hip replacements, and is probably a result of the bashing the muscles take in the surgery. Muscles are funny things, and can hang around being pained for a time and then get worse. They can bruise and become inflamed; and they can turn and twist and do the same. A good physio should be able to advise.

oh, those groins ... they are so pivotal in keeping us balanced and erect, aren;t they ..
Maybe get an appointment with a physical therapist who is specialized in hip-/knee replacement surgeries - or, like Hope mentioned, look for groin exercises on youtube - I have to really be mindful when standing up and take it slow ... getting my posture straight and fully erect before I start walking - I do forget, of course and ... to me it feels as if the muscles are short and tight and need to be stretched gently ..
How is your walking? are you limping a bit ?
What is the nurse specialised in?
please let us know how you are getting on okay?
big warm hug

Thanks for the advice everyone. I tried to phone orthopaedic specialist nurse today but couldn't get her - I'll just keep trying! Good to know that you all think that it is nothing too serious.
Renee - I am limping a bit but there are times when it is not too bad and other times when it's quite pronounced!
Am going to have a look at the You tube video but might wait until i've spoken to nurse before trying any exercises. Keeping fingers (and toes if I could!!) crossed that things will get better soon!
Thanks again x

See a physio . You may end up like me paying privately to get your muscles sorted as sounds like muscle pain . I still have groin pain and it was bad at 3 months but at 4 months that is getting better as I try to squeeze my knees together whenever I can as that strengthens that inner thigh muscle . My outer thigh muscles are ' horrible ' according to my osteopath . Costing me a fortune and at 4 months not had one pain free day dunce the op October 8 th 2016
So I am on your page x
