Groin pain after THR

Hi, I have bilateral THR`s. One is 6 yrs old, the other almost 2 years. My newer one has always been causing pain in the groin. I mentioned it at my last appointment in September (a follow up from the older one dislocating for 2nd time), and the surgeon said it was probably psoas tendonitis. I have been doing physio exercises regularly, but the pain getting worse. Especially when lifting my leg or externally rotating eg getting in/out of the car. I need to left my leg with my hands as it hurts so much to do. I rang the hospital and told them the symptoms and am seeing the surgeon again in few weeks at my request. They said the cup may be a bit proud. i hope not! But it would explain the symptoms of a tearing feeling, catching etc.. I have been reading about causes of these symptoms and the psoas muscle does seem to fit. Has anyone had treatment for this? I ahve read about injections, psoas tendon release or even revisions.

I have had the same symptoms.having to pick my leg up for everything. Cat bed getting pants on.my surgeon also said the psoas muscle release.but they actually take it off the bone.I don't see how that would be helpful honestly I don't.

So I have been doing physical therapy. She pushes with her thumb deep into the groin to help inflammation and the muscle is so tight This process hurts a lot.then she put warm moist heat on it.now I can lift this leg into the car with less pain also into the bed I can crosses it without help.

I'm now 8 months post op.

There is a cane called therma cane and it has round nobs on it and a curved handle.I use it to do the same pressure as she did.since PT ran out of time.Hope this helps

Hi I am glad the PT is helping. I was seeing a physio for a while but now discharged. I hope I am given somethings to try, but hopefully not surgery. I also cannot see how the tendon release would help?

I never heard of a  therma cane.  I looked it up.  It looks like it could be helpful for a lot of things.  I need to see if I can get one.

My right THR was 1 1/2 years ago and I have the same problem and more.  I have battled getting things done.  I just had nerve and muscle tests 2 1/2 hours and never found out much,  I have never been able to raise my leg.  They just told me I needed to work harder.  For awhile I thought it would be easier to sleep on the floor than to get the leg into bed.  Now the groin still hurts and the whole hip inside hurts and burns. My hip is so week I limp and drag my foot.

I hope you find something out.  Keep in tough. Maybe what you find out could help me.

Hi, I had the same and a week ago I had crtisone nection into the psoas muscles.   I still have "tightness" in the groin abductor muscle and tendons  I see my physio in a week and let her "view" and comment.  BUT I do feel I am not dragging/limping as much and def tthe inflammation has reduced at top of thigh as now my scar is indented!  I shld see consultant again 16th April but am out of the country so not able till 7th May.. IF the groin still not right then I hope he will inject intto that area too...  This has been a 2 year project for me from arthroscopy to replacement till now... so HOPE it will soon be over.. as I am NOT getting any younger!!!
