Ladies: If I can’t bend more than 90° after hip replacement, any tips on how to shave my legs or groom my toenails myself? Thanks.

I get my husband to cut my nails and thankfully i havent had to shave my legs yet. Mind you my hubby is rough and hurt my toe last night and still got one toe cutting me but its better than nothing.

My surgery was due to a fall so I didn’t have time to prepare my toenails. And I live in FL so we don't have winters. I'm going to have to figure out a way to be creative ☺

I managed to shave my legs by doing the 'golfers reach' for the non-op leg, and doing a combination of bending my knee, bending at the hip and holding the very end of the razor handle (to get as much arm reach as possible) to shave my operative leg. It wasn't too difficult and I don't think I bent more than 90 degrees.

Toe nails I had done at a 'foot care' place for £20 (rather than a chiropodist as that was v expensive when I enquired at our local one). Whilst £20 may seem a lot for your toe nails to be cut, they did a whole foot pamper (a nice treat) and cut the nails perfectly short so they don't need cutting again for quite a while.

Tricky! But soon you will be able to put on socks and reach your feet comfortably. it just takes a bit more time and patience, but you will get there. Good luck!

get someone to do them for you, or local mobile beauty person or go wild for a while.

    please don't risk dislocation.

who is putting your surgical stockings on for you. ask that person.

Good question. I went for a pedicure at three months. My surgeon said no cutting or clipping during those first three months due to infection. Oh and the other, I have hairy legs!

I've managed to do my unoperated toes but hubby does my operated side and manage to shave legs using electric shaver just being careful bending slightly and slowly ..

9wks and still not able to do shoe laces yet on operated side and IRA killing me inside lol...

I had my hip 18 months ago, and I still can't bend comfortably to cut my toenails. I'm 62 and thankfully no longer have hairy Legs so don't have to shave any more! Good luck, don't rush it.

I am at nearly 12 months now and these things are well in the past.

But I do remember some advice on this forum. Sit on the second step of the stairs and put your feet on the floor - you will be able to reach your feet much more easily. Works for putting socks and shoes on, and for cutting toe-nails.

De-hairing legs was hard work (it's a piece of cake now). I have to get my foot up onto the edge of the bath to do it, which was pretty difficult at first. But I managed it from about 6 weeks. It's just a question of balance as there is not any risk of violating the 90 degree rule.
