Groove/Ridge in Poop

Hi there. TMI. A bit of back story. I had constipation in November 2017 and i ended up bleeding. I was so scared, i went to see a GP who did a digital Rectal exam and diagnosed me with an anal fissure which healed on its own and i had since a normal bowel movement. In March 2018, i had a relatively normal bowel movement but when i passed it, it felt like razors cutting. When i wiped, i saw blood. I immediately scheduled an appointment with a a physician. She did a DRE and diagnosed me with an internal hemmorhiod. I was not convinced so i scheduled another appointment with a GI and pushed for a colonoscopy. This was done 10 days later and the results were a normal colonoscopy no hemmrhoids or anything. He just said i might have had an anal fissure that healed on its own. I was asked to up my fibre intake and fluids. This has helped pretty much and i am pretty regular with normal round stool until i started seeing a groove/ridge in my poop (i check my poop). I am not sure if it has always been there. This doesn't happen all the time but its does.

Anyone experience this? Should i be worried? Do you think i need another colonoscopy? My anxiety off the hook.

Relax! You have had a normal colonoscopy. Stools come in all shapes and sizes.  Believe in your normal test results and trust and accept what your doctors have told you. Stop examining your stools because you will make your anxiety far worse.

    Hi there!

The ridge you have noticed is probably from an internal hemorhoid that you have. I've got several which cause ridges like that. I, too, have experienced anal fissures. VERY painful, for SURE! I had two C-sections and a Myomectomy ( fibroid removal) which caused issues with constipation, hemorhoids, anal fissures etc. due to the anesthesia slowing my bowels. Not fun!

I would get painful hemorhoids, anal fissures and nasty pain on and off for years. Routine colonoscopies were negative.

About three years ago during recovery from knee replacement surgery which, once again, brought the hemorhoid issues, an anal fissure, constipation due to the general anesthesia, I found "Butt Paste" in the baby section of our pharmacy. I thought: "Hmmm...helps prevent diaper rash...maybe it can help MY bottom!" Well, long story short, I have been pain-free, have not experienced any anal fissures, and my hemorhoids while still there have quit causing me trouble SINCE I religiously apply the Butt Paste cream to my anus following EACH AND EVERY bowel movement. I use wet wipes first to super clean the area. Then I Pat the area dry with toilet paper. The Butt Paste goes on, around and a bit inside the ring of the anus, lubricating the area.

I have tried many types of hemorhoid creams over the years. NONE have worked anywhere near as well as this simple baby diaper cream! I even wrote to the company to thank them!

My plan: 1) Clean area REALLY well. 2) Dry area. 3) Apply Butt Paste.

I also drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, keep moving to keep the body working at moving food through me, and TRY to not worry about my bowels!

    I hope this helps you!🤗

Thank you for your response. Does this mean that the routine colonoscopies that were negative never found any internal hemmorhoids?

They took biopsies, found polyps, but all were negative. Hemorhoids are still there near the anus, both inside and outside, but they are behaving, and doc isn't worried about them. Also, no more bleeding from them either since my clean and lubricate method!😊
