Gross Hematuria for almost a month!

hello all,

i dont know if anyone still comes to this forum.

but i really need help to calm down and move forward. i am 32 year old female and have been a light smoker in the past 6 years or so.

5 months ago around April i noticed the typical symptoms of UTI. cloudy smelly urine and an increased urge to pee. i kept post phoning the doctors visit. Around a month ago i noticed brown colored urine. Saw the doctor who ordered some test and turned OUt i Had a UTI . Urine culture showed E coli and sensitivity to cipro. Also had RBC, leucocytes, Nitrites etc.

Doctor also did an ultra sound that came back pretty much ok. no stones or tumors seen.

i was initially treated with the wrong antibiotic. later i was put on the cipro for a week. mind you in still getting the gross hematuria intermittently.

completed the dose. repeated test and scan. urine test shows RBC still present and WBC but no bacteria growth in the culture.

did and x ray and untra sound again. they showed nothing. i completed the 7 day antibiotic course about a week ago and im still noticing hematuria.

i am freaking out about cancer. i plan on having a cystiscopy and MRI/CT done this week. but i am soooo scared its almost debilitating. i appreciate any help, i have a 4 yr okd daughter that i want to be around for...

Mariam, you are doing all the right things and the cystoscopy may help to show what is the cause of your haematuria. Of course you are scared. Everybody thinks the worst but the outcome may be something quite different to what you expect. Keep going with the diagnostic procedures.

Very normal and treatment is very common. A contraceptive hormone therapy should be done under a smart Gynecologist.
