i am a healthy 35 year old female. and i am having some major gut issues for a while now. not sure what to do , or where to start... everything i eat gives me diarrhea.. for instance this morning i had a bowl of oatmeal and a coffee. i was fine up until lunch when i started eating raw carrots, cucumbers, almonds and some sweet potato crackers with hummus. i instantly had to run to the bathroom. this has been on going for some time. it could be salads, fresh veggies or fruit sometime certain types of meats, dairy that all do this to me. my Dr says try the elimination diet. but offered now help in how i start it. i need some guidance.

Ashley, an elimination diet is quite easy to do but needs a lot of perseverance. The most common foods to do this are wheat/gluten and all things dairy ie all milks and anything made from milk.

For 2 weeks omit anything with Wheat/gluten from your diet...you will have to look at all the ingredients on prepared food like ready meals/cakes biscuits etc and exclude them. If you feel better then you have found the problem. Lots of supermarkets now do a "free from" section, like Tescos in UK, so maybe have a look there as well but you dont have to rely on these foods....just look at the ingredients list.

if you are still the same after 2 weeks , re introduce wheat and exclude all dairy for 2 weeks.....again you will have to look at all the ingredients on prepared food.

If no change, then try 2 weeks without eggs and so forth and so on.

It has to be 2 weeks to make sure all the intolerances are removed from the gut.

There are quite a few common intolerance foods like mustard, celery etc. If you are in UK you will see the common allergens are in black type in the ingredients list, so you will soon build up a knowledge of what it may be.

Do have a go...this is how I found out I had an intolerance to Milk and milk products.
