H Pylori

I've been on antibiotic treatment for 5 days. The abdominal pain is excruiating. Couldn't sleep for the pain last night. It's worse now than before I started treatment. Is this a normal side effect with the treatment ? If it is I'll trudge through with it. I'm a 70 yr old male from the U.S. I've heard some people say they had to stop but I don't really see the logic in stopping and H Pylori starting all over again but had no idea the pain would reach this level. Would appreciate any response. Thanks

I didn't have any problem during the treatment and actually went on holiday that week. My stomach pain started a few weeks later and continued for about six months before gradually abating. I was about your age at the time.

My GP arranged for me to see a consultant and I had a barium enema X-Ray that just showed my worsening diverticulitus.

Thank you derek. My stomach just never hurt this bad before I started. And it's a 14 day 4 times a day antibiotic trearment. It's hell , to get old , I guess.

My course was only six days. My H Pylori  test had been negative but my GP suggested taking it just in case it was wrong!

I had a stool test recently that was again negative but this time a more sensible doctor but my digestive problems continue.

So sorry to hear about the continuing digestive problems. My treatment is for 14 days. I went by my GPs office , just got back. Turned out , the prescription he wrote was for 60mg of dexilant 2 times a day. Should have been 1 a day. He said that's probably why my abdomen is hurting so much. Also have a headache. He said those are possible side effects from PPIs. And that there's no longterm harm though. Because the PPI stays in the system for a short time. Come to find out though , it actually wasn't his mistake. He faxed the script to the pharmacist and the fax machine is screwed up. Didn't clearly print a 1. It looked like 2 a day. I'm relieved . But I still have 8 days to go. H Pylori was found through an endoscopy. All the other test were negative.

Oddly there was an article in our Daily Mail yesterday on prescription errors by doctors and pharmacists. I'll PM it to you as links are not allowed here.

Thank you derek. Interesting and informative articles. I've alway checked the colors , sizes and names on my medications. I've had a couple of mistakes over the years by doing that. But this time it was the right medication with dosing instructions that I followed. Just modern technology failure , this time. If I hadn't have started feeling so bad I wouldn't have gone back to my GP. At first he actually thought he made the mistake. But when I went back to the pharmacist , she pulled the fax and saw what had happened. Doctor said the double dose of PPI doesn't last long in the body , so I should get back to normal tomorrow or the next day. Also said it wasn't dangerous , just painful. Anyway thank you sooo much for the info. Gonna pass it on to others.

Hi PortacrEan First off, I was in pain very often between 2006-2010 only when I ate certain kind of food or didn't eat at all. Did your health care provider give you the breath test and blood for H. PYLORI? I need answers before I can decide what to say so answer me this: what are you eating right now? How long have you known something was wrong or lived with the pain? List it for me in your reply. What are the medications like antibiotic and antiacid names: and how are they suppose to be taken? Did you know that no acid at all is suppose to be in your diet? No acid means no fruit of any kind, no vitamins, no juice, no skittles, no lemonade, no meat, no salt, no pepper, no seasoning, etc. You probably wondering what to eat? Lol, Got Rice? Make really thick porridge so you stay fuller longer by boiling cooked rice in water till thicken, keepin adding just water and stir often to make sure rice doesnt stick to bottom pot, no salt and check your water source at home. I remember now, I was in a lot of pain they gave me pain killers in the beginning which wasted my time. But the anta-acid reduced the pain because it blocked the release of peptic acid however you need acid to disolve breakdown food so eating heavy stuff with chewing requirements produces acid in mouth. Just do the porridge thing bc you just swallow and Take meds as directed. Hope that helps.

      Metronidazole. 4 X day

      Minocycline. 2 X day

      Dexilant. 1 X day

      Bismuth. 4 X day

I've had abdominal pain daily for 1 1/2 years. Had blood test several time , always negative for H Pylori. Had cat scans , x-rays, and nothing ever showed up anywhere. Finally took it upon myself to have endoscopy. Turned out positive for H Pylori. Inflamation but no ulcer. Since starting this treatment I've been feeling worse , feel sickly all the time. I eat a bowl of oat meal each morning , a sandwich , usually for lunch , and baked fish or chicken with vegetables for supper. Also been taking a probiotics along with b-12 , B-6 , vit C along with a one a day multi vitamin. Was going to stop these things while on this treatment but the pharmacist said not to stop since the antibiotics kill off all the bacteria anyway. So , this is where I Stand now. Feel terrible every day. Just a general feeling of not being well plus my abdomen alway hurts. And neausea is always there, but not real bad. Hasn't stopped my appetite at all. But don't feel like cooking at all either. So I end up buying something almost every day. Thank you sooo much for your interest and response. Tired of all this stuff now. It's time to either kill or cure now, I think.

Man that is a horrible experience, I know what you are going through! When I felt like that I couldn't function normally anymore, h.pylori has brought me down to my knees.  My faith has been lost in doctors and antibotics, in my experience it does more damage than good!  After triple therapy and putting my body through hell, ending up with a major candida problem the h.pylori was still active.  After torturing myself a little longer I decided to bite the bullet and invest in Matula Tea. It was expesive but worth every penny!  Some people on the net said it didn't work for them but I was desperate and in any event, there were more positive responses than negative.  I was strict on myself, I took the tea on an empty stomach every morning and every night, making sure no food interfere, cutting out gluten, suger and soy.  Within a week of the 30day course I could feel a major difference, I could stand up straight again!!!  I wish my doctor suggested Matula Tea instead of putting me through hell, so the best advise I can give you Portacrean, boot the antiboitics and get yourself the herbal tea without any side effects that actually works!!

Have two more days left on antibiotic treatment. Gonna finish them and I have a follow up appointment with the gastroenterologist on Monday the 27th. Everything I've read says the doctors don't normally treat H Pylori , unless there's an ulcer. I see lots of conflicting information on that. I guess it's just up to the GP. So , I have a ton of questions for the gastroenterologist. Like how bad was the inflamation and should it have caused this much pain , without an ulcer. Gonna get the Mutual tea Monday and take it anyway. How long ago did you have this and has any of it actually gone away ? Gonna be 70 in July and don't won't to spend the next year's battling this. I think I'd like to get back to bobbins and fishing if I can get rid of this crap.
