H.pylori gastritis

Hi I need someone that can give me some advice or experienced similar experience.

I start having a lot of abdominal pain since November last year. I went to the GP and he diagnosed 'gastritis' or inflamed stomach. Prescribed some PPI and I didn't feel much improvement. I know I don't have any acid reflux, I had my gallbladder taken out in Oct 14 and had lots of different pains, except in stomach. Anyway, I thought over and over in my head, why I had gastritis after a year of constant suffering and I started believing it could be caused by bile reflux . After seeing a specialist, I went to do an endoscopy two weeks ago. I have h.pylori . So I was prescribed the triple therapy treatment it is usually taken to treat this. I finished today but I'm in a lot of pain. I know things aren't going to improve suddenly, but is this normal to feel like this. I hope that the h pylori is eradicated. How long gastritis caused by h.pylori improve?

    Hi Leni75

H.Pylori is a very common stomach bacteria that burrows into the stomach lining and duodenum.

It can cause a lot of damage to your stomach lining. Depending how long you have had H.Pylori dictates the extent of damage to your stomach.

It does take sometime for your stomach to return to normal after the eradication of H.Pylori. On occasion the antibiotics do not eradicate all of the bacteria and some are left behind because they can burrow and evade the AB's. That is why you wil need another test after the course of medication.

You will need to be patient and wait awhile say a month or so to see if the pain goes away, if you do not get any relief go back to your doc for another HP test to check if it has all gone away. You can have endoscopy, stool test or breath test to check, a blood test does not usually show HP...it was good HP was found because it could have caused stomach ulcers.....best wishes...

Thanks for your reply. My endoscopy showed moderate erythematous gastritis in the proximal stomach? No ulcers ( yet)

Im thinking in going back to my GP even though he told me wasn't necessary to see if the treatment worked. I hope it did. But I'm left with so much pain still and nausea. I stopped taking the PPI too. I'm thinking getting a natural supplement Mastic gum I've read it's good to heal the stomach and Alloa Vera as a drink. I'm taking chamomile tea everyday with manuka honey already to see if my inflammation decreases. I stopped drinking milk months ago because I felt worse, and avoid all dairy products minus yogurts. I eat a lot of yogurts with good bacteria for years.

I can't believe how unlicky I've been with all the problems I had after my Gallbladder surgery, and now I have gastritis from H.pylori. I guess I can now finally rest my mind a bit more because I know what's the cause.

I'll try to be patient but feeling nauseated and pain is really annoying.

      thank you Lillian

      Hi Leni75

I sure hear your frustration I have had what your going through for a long time. It started October / 14. I have been turned inside out with tests scans blood work etc etc

I changed my diet about a year ago I don't eat dairy turned vegan was a vegetarian. Went gluten free . I don't drink or smoke... I also have a chronic cough on top of nausea and cramp like pain on my left side. I had my gallbladder out in 1994. My GI doesn't feel it's urgent even though I have been suffering for so long had to stop working I also had lightheaded. They discovered Hpylori back in Nov /14. It eradicated with a breath test ... I get a breath test done every 4 months. Nothing... I have tried what you mentioned and now live with it which is poor quality of life very stressful. My endoscopy was booked 9 months ago I finally get one in 3 weeks ... I hope they see something but not too serious. I was told it could be gastritis due to my hypylori. Mine was very bad gave me a lot of sickness lost a lot of weight.

I sure hope you don't go this long my GI says that gastritis if very bad can take years to get back to normal 😂.

A little nervous of the scope did you do it with sedation or not? How was it!

      Keep me informed Robin

      Hi Robin

The most common cause of gastritis is due to the bacteria and most people get rid of it in a first treatment. But It sounds like you have chronic gastritis, persistent inflammation because you still have the bacteria after so long. I'm sure that the EGD will give answers about the state of your stomach and hopefully if just some inflammation like I also have.  I did  without any sedation, twice.  I think this last time was better. it just unpleasant but not painful. It's a very good test to find out a lot about our stomach. i know now it will take a while for my gastritis to heal, but I want to check first if I got rid of the bacteria. Do you know how long after the triple treatment you can be tested to see if eradication happened? Thank you

Not really besides upper abdominal pain, only had nausea and indisgestion. I think the EGD will be best test to find out what's wrong. Can be due to both gastritis because of h pylori. I think the doctor will tell you what's going on once you do your endoscopy and best way to treat it. Good luck with all.

    Hi Leni

I'm glad you have finally found an answer for your pain. According towjat I've read you shouldn't have a blood test to check for h pylori after you've had it as it will remain positive die to antibodies. The breath test is the best test to check. Look up NICE guidelines. May I ask you what your symptoms were? I had my gb removed in OCT 15, in December I started to have burning pain in abdomen gp prescribed omeprazole but I haven't taken any as read so much about bad side effects. The pain is still there but now come perhaps once a week or every 10 days and lasts from a day to 4 days at a time.

I also still have a bruise type pain in gb area that comes and goes.

Hi Michelle my symptoms were various after I had my GB out. I start having stomach / chest burning after my surgery and had it for a year. Chest pain due to esophageal spasms for months on end. I got depressed because of not knowing if I was ever going to get better and just had a baby too. They gave me something to coat the stomach which I took for couple of months. I had to live in misery every day. And now this horrible inflammation and h pylori. With this I started having indisgestion, full after a light meal and lots of nausea and abdominal pain. I'm taking rabeprazole and took antibiotics. I hope it's just the bacteria and I hope meds nail it. I'll have to ask GP for breath test.

i think it will take a long time to heal from this gastritis just like when I had my gb out. Why is it Everthing harder for me? 😩

Give it time and it will get better the burning. You just had gb out.

      good luck

      Hi Leni

I realize you've posted this nearly two years ago but I'm very curious to know if you feel better?

I'm 19 and had h pylori and after it was removed, my endoscopy showed inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis).

I've been fighting this awful battle for 3 months and I just want to know if it ever gets back to normal?

Will i ever be able to eat the foods I used to eat,  and will I ever get my life back? I just want to know if I'll ever feel 100% normal again or am I just doomed? Will I always have to alter my diet? Because even altering my diet doesn't really help, I have so much pain in my stomach after eating and I vomit or get nausea a lot. The depression, stress, and the physical/mental illness this has brought me is very overwhelming, and I don't know how much more I can take. I hope you respond I really just want some positive feedback from someone who's gone what I've gone through. Thank you.
