Had a Cystoscopy Today

I had a cystoscopy today & it was not terrible! There is a slight sort of sting and pinch when the tube is inserted, and I definitely knew something was in there...but overall not painful. The procedure lasted about 30 seconds and the doctor said everything looked fine. They fill your bladder with water so when the procedure is over you need to make a quick scramble for the bathroom. I also got to watch on a monitor so could see just what the doctor saw. There was slight stinging when I went to the bathroom, but it has subsided already. Overall, not terribly fun, but not horrible either. Best part is how short the procedure is, the worst part was waiting for a month and being anxious. Hope this helps anyone else who is anxiously awaiting their own procedure!

I have to see a Consultant next week and expect I'll be having one as my G.P. has referred me for a Cystoscopy.I'm so worried about the procedure I'm losing sleep over it sad thank you for your reassuring post. Are you male of female? I expect it's a procedure that feels quite different for men & women. Thank you once again ~ Jackie

I'm female! After reading many posts here I was completely relieved about the procedure. I was so frightened I had to talk myself out of canceling the appointment, but after I read about others experience the fear went away. My doctor didn't numb me as she said the procedure is so fast and easy for females it just is not necessary. She said for males she numbs the area. Truly, the worst part is the wait. I also was lucky enough to have a friend go with me and she was waiting in the next room, so that helped too. I think you will be surprised how well it goes, and I will whisper a prayer for you! Let me know how it goes, but I'm sure you will do just finesmile

I'm male. Had one of these - a flexible one- and it was no problem at all. A very skilful lady urologist did it but most uros seem to be male.I hope you don't have a similar situation but my procedure was in alarge & busy theatre, and I was "prepped" by having my gown pulled right up to my neck. This left me bare- underwear had gone before- in full view of about a dozen health staff assistants, male and female. So be ready for some frank exposure - and some frank looking maybe.Just warning- expect you'll get a neat little room somewhere.
