Had a 'turn' after four years

A month ago I had an attack after four years and then another yesterday (16th July). The symptoms are slightly different, not quite so severe, but bad enough. I have a slight headache and feel as though I have something on my head. I take Serc 16 three times a day which I am sure kept it at bay until now

    Hi Miriam,

my MD has periods where it is absent and then comes back with a vengeance.  I have no idea why.  Nothing explains it not happening and then suddenly coming back.  I've searched for anything that might be a trigger to no avail.  I do take Vitamin D though as I thought that might help as in winter I get more attacks than in summer.  If that is any help to you, although of course, this is summer at the moment.

    Hi Miriam,

Maybe you need to up the dosage. I started on 16 then increasesd to 32 3x daily and have been attack free for 2 years. I also take water tablets that help.

Sorry to hear that! I’ve been on betahistine for a little over a week. Yesterday I had to go to my ent for a hearing test. My hearing actually has improved almost from 20 percent to 60 percent! Has anyone else had that happen that are on the drug?

my hearings really helps the tinnitus. If you try them make sure you get the best models.

my last vertigo attack I wanted to die. For some reason it happens when my blood pressure rises from stress, caffeine and salt. After having 3 strokes I need to keep bp as low as possible. It seems a vicious cycle. So far the tinnitus has not gone from using betahistine but I know it takes time. If it improves my hearing I’ll keep taking it! Good luck it’s a horrible disease!

Mine MD was  gone for 4 years, then my son got married and I guess from the stress of planning it my MD hit me like a rock then my mom died three weeks later . That was a month ago and I can’t shake my MD. I live Day to Day wondering if I’m going to be sick. My doctors won’t give me Betahistin  probably because I live in the states. But I would love to get my hand on some to try it. It seems to work for so many. Going to a specialist on Friday to see about operations . Hoping for relief

I feel for you Judy, make the operation your last resort. Where in us do you live? My ent is the one who gave me betahistine. I live in San Jose, ca. I was going to have an operation as I have a stape implant that was thought to have been causing the vertigo. He really didn’t want to remove it as it would have caused complete deafness in my right ear. I decided to get hearing aids and they do help and he gave me the betahistine. It helps the tinnitus too. He is a wonderful ent.

I was worried about side effects interaction with my other meds as I’ve had 3 strokes. He said there are no side effects and the pharmacist also confirmed that.

Try staying calm and no caffeine , watch your blood pressure. I know it’s hard and you can’t stop life’s unexpected bad turns but for your sake you have too. Maybe a low dose of anxiety med. I’m on loosest does of lexapro. Good luck to you! Keep researching and plugging along! Chris

Hi, just wondering where you get your prescription filled? My Dr. just gave me a prescription yesterday, and just trying to find out if I can get it filled here in Pennsylvania. Thank you

Hi Irene, my doctor gave me the name of a compound drugstore here. Call your Dr they should know or your local pharmacy should know of one. Let us know how it works!

Increase you Serc doseage (at least double) and ask for a review with your Consultant to check that nothing fundamental has changed.
