Had Ablation on Thursday feeling worn out

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a catheter ablation on Thursday which was a success, i was hoping to be back in work yesterday but still getting tired if i go shopping, do the cleaning, go for a walk etc I thought recovery only took 2 to 3 days? My groin is still a bit bruised and achey which gets a bit uncomfortable when i walk a lot but i expected this. I just wondered what recovery times other people who have had the ablation had experienced.

    Hi Snuggy,

I have'nt had this done because I am trying the meds first. Could you tell me why you had this procedure and what symptoms was you having. I get ectopic beats and fast heart rate. I notice lately my blood pressure is going up at times as well.

I am on Flecainide so hope this works.

Hope you will feel better soon but I suppose any procedure to do with the heart can make you feel tired.

      Hi Merryl,

I tried meds but they made me feel worse, i got a lot more small episodes. I'd had SVT for thirty years, early on i hardly noticed it and could stop them by holding my breath but over the last few years they were getting more often, lasting longer and anything i tried to do to stop them made my heart rate faster. Episodes were usually about an hour, usually because the hospital stopped them with adenosine, averaged about 210 bpm.The op went really well, Wythenshawe hospital staff were fantastic. Maybe i'm trying to run before i can walk, just keen to get back to normal.

I hope the Flecainide works for you, but don't be worried if you need an Ablation, its pretty straightforward and has a high success rate.

      Hi Snuggy,

I have had these symptoms for over 30 years too but on and off. It came back with a vengance about 3 months ago and ended up in hospital for 10 days. After scans and tests I finally had a name for it ectopic beats. My pulse went up to 126 a couple of days ago but the flecainide suppose to stop this. I don't like taking them and hope I can have the ablation but I don't know if my heart rate is high enough to have this done.

      Hi Merryl,

Best to speak to your GP, sometimes you have to try a few different meds before you find the one for you. He could also advise you where you stand with an Ablation. I hope you get the chance to have it done :-)

Snuggy -  Shopping? cleaning? have you ever heard of resting after an op ? Whats the hurry? People have different recovery times, yours will be longer as you are not resting . .

Hi, I know what you mean, i was just trying to potter around in the hopes of gradually getting my energy back and returning to work. I started a new job last week so i'm putting myself under pressure to get back asap. I was just hoping i'd be one of those people who bounced back in 2 to 3 days but as you say maybe i tried to do too much too soon.
