Had band 3 yrs ago and 3 fills within first year. Now struggling to eat

It started a few months ago that the odd meal was proving difficult but now it is daily and am only able to consume soup.... Forget totally about trying to even eat porridge in mornings, not able. Surely it is not restriction as I have been fine for past 3years?

I would just get appointment with ur gp and explain. They may send u for an xray to have everything checked out. Maybe nothing to worry about but let gp know. X

Did this begin after a fill cos if so then I would say you need a slight defill - if you have reached that ultimate level of restriction then the smallest amount can make the biggest difference, however if this has starated to happen and you did not have a recent fill then i would say it sounds as if something has changed if you have been OK prior to the last few mths so I would get back in touch with the bariatric team who did your band op and explain the situation to them - your GP probs wont know that much about wgt loss surgery so in my opinion you need to get in touch with the specialists -  if you self funded you should be able to organise an appt for yourself and i would ask for this asap in case your band has slipped - it is not unusual for restricton to be greater in the morning to later on in the day but if you were ok in the morning up until recently then it would be best to get this checked out - good luck and let us know th e outcome

      Hi Bandid

As previously mentioned, last had a fill over 2 years ago and everything was fine. About 8 months ago I started feeling more restriction certain times of month but would only last a day or two but could easily revert to mushy food like mash, thick soups etc but as the months are going by I'm finding I'm feeling restriction more often and food that I could eat yesterday will get stuck today after 1-2 mouthfulls, therefore starting to get sick and only throwing up balls of flem (apologies for being so descriptive) now I am even struggling with soups and yesterday even found it difficult to drink hot chocolate. So definitely need to speak to GP as I'm out of my 2 year aftercare with hospital group, so need to go via NHS

it might not be an automatic procedure for the NHS to take on your case if you went private in the first place - obviously they would see you as an emergency if things got really bad and you turned up at A&E - but they might need to apply for funding before you can be seen as an NHS patient for non emergency re wgt loss surgery because they did not have any involvement with your surgery in the first place and this could take time OR you could cont with your original provider and pay as you go, so's to speak - lots of people continue as private patients  long after they are outside the aftercare period - if you get to the stage where you cannot even manage fluids please seek medical intervention straight away - once again good luck with all of this and i hope you get sorted in the near future

A gp has to send everyone for an xray under these cicumstances whether private beforehand or not. This can be either a&e or by appointment. This can be very dangerous if ignored so no risks can be taken

I had a serious operation and had all fluid removed from my band but I still have restriction I expected to be able to eat much more , I have terminal pancreatic cancer so that may be the reason but I would love to be able to eat more. You are right about GPs knowing nothing about bariatric surgery, even my oncologist doesnt have a clue what I am talking about. cynthia
